I am thinking to make some 3D animated content (not stereo 3D, but 3D from animation programs like maya, descreet max, and so...) for my own site and for further selling. So I am interested to know what you think about that? Will I make sells on my site, will somebody buy content like that? I planned to make images and movies also...

Truth be told, toon shit sells. 3D stuff is on the rise (only if it's quality work). And it's not all sick "assclowns" ... it's guys who enjoy it because it's either FUNNY, sick, or looks "cool". Mostly collectors... like the guys who join or fequent high quality bikini sites. Do you think they're ALL beating off to a cookie-cut model in a bikini when there's a hardcore site right next door? If you know your demographic, and market correctly... anything will sell. Just look at Virtua Girl or whatever that is... a girl dances on your desktop. Big deal. But hundreds of thousands of pple downloaded it.. Period.

Does anyone remember Amateur Hardcore? 1.5 to 2 cents a click was making many pple lots of money back then. Then we have 1998, which began the Xpics era (correct my timeline if I'm off here). Ohhh.. I know this one! Plus I wanna get to 38 posts a day (hehe).

Cops still use sketch artists for a couple reasons:

1. It's cheaper. Ever try to hire a qulified 3D artist to do work for you before? A good one is upwards of $100/hr.

2. It's faster. Doing a 3D rendering like the detailed one you see Amp has posted above can take weeks or months to finish. By that time, the criminal will have hopped a flight to Afghanastan to hide in the caves with the other sand jockeys.

1. If you are to hire a full time 3D artist, it will not cost you that much more than a sketcher... There are MANY 3D artist who does not have the chance to work pro with 3D, but who still have the tallent. And they will work for close to nothing :)

2. (Not Amp who postet the picture) A picture like that does not take that long (Normaly it would take about a day or two) BUT you would need a picture of the dude, to make the skin look right... And then there is no point in it... hehe

Ahhh. Yes. But would a 3d artist who's that talented stay underpaid for long? I would venture to guess that the cops would be losing their 3D artists left and right as positions at ILM became available. :winkwink:

Usually sketch artists are called upon to work with a witness on the spot while their memory is still very fresh. They can generate a close composite based on the description of the witness in a matter of minutes. Even if a 3D rendering takes only hours or days, it's still too long for it to be viable.

But I wouldn't be at all shocked to see them use 3D renderings based on the initial sketch made from witness testimony.

I think you are right about that... :) And about the pay... Don't know how it is where you are... But here in denmark we have 3d artists becoming teaches at about a 30% pay of what they could make as a 3D artist... So it's not all about the pay ;)
