My TV Menu Has ANTI-DRUG Banner!

Should this be cool?

I click menu* on my TV and my cvable company (ADELPHIA) is flying a banner for ANTIDRUG.COM - "Facts about Marijuana"

What kind of bullshit is this?

They are petitioning against Marijuana through my cable provider?

WTF?

This is why I dont turn this fucking TV on, its all control.

Nevadans, please vote.

Fletch XXX 11-02-2002 03:07 PM

Let me reiterate.

Everytime Adelphia clients change the channel they get to see a ANTI MARIJUANA banner.

This is fucking un-cool.

Free-Styler 11-02-2002 03:08 PM

How would it be if they flew Anti CIgarette banners or Anti Porn banner or Anti Alcohol?

Anti whatever.

I dont like it.

Sly_RJ 11-02-2002 03:12 PM

What the fuck? Every time I check my email I find pictures of porn. What the fuck? Its a crime I tell you!

They have a right to advertise their anti-marijuana site, just like you have the right to advertise your pro-marijuana site. :winkwink:

Money talks man. Stoners spend their money on weed, not advertising.

I dont email people porn.

Of course they have rights to advertise, this is different. This is only going down because of the upcoming polls.

Yes money talks, this has nothing to do with money, this is all about mass communication and brainwashing, sorry you missed it.

Just do what I do and stop watching TV. Anything of importance or relevance will be conveyed to you via other methods... TV thinks they are the only way to get info nowadays, and it simply isn't true. hehe. fuck 'em.

There are anti-cigarette ads. Anti-gambling. Anti-guns. Anti-domestic violence. Anti-alcohol. Anti-sex. Propaganda is great, because it works. Americans are sheep, sheep I tell ya. Create your own propaganda. Win the war on drugs!

What are you doing watching TV anyway? Sinner!

I understand your point.

believe me.

I have friends who own bars, I know all too well the scenario.

BUt I can understand commercials, bill boards etc.

This isnt like that. Its my channel menu dude? I just dont understand advertising on my TV channel menu. Thats like your OS popping a little "would you rather launch..." everytime you click to launch a program.

All Im trying to do is change the channel, or open a program, not looking for propaganda or opinion.

nevermind, I guess its just my own argument.

PornoDoggy 11-02-2002 03:43 PM

You should start an anti-anti campaign.

Spoonie Luv 11-02-2002 03:46 PM

The problem is christians control the government and drugs are the new sin. You should all be grateful they want to do this and Ashhahahahaha hasn't thrown down a Meese Commission style hammer on your ass.

playa 11-02-2002 03:50 PM

that was one thing i didn't understand about cable TV

you see all the guides, and channel banner
have adverts all over them

but yet it still cost $70 a month,,

damn glad i got satellite

Gemini 11-02-2002 04:08 PM

Call them and see if you can disable it. :winkwink:

Complain if their isn't and post it on local boards for others to call and complain. Enough people do and it will be gone.

btw...

WHACK

first of all that site goes to edoctor.net, has no facts about marijuana that i can see (tho it does have some cool facts about KOREAN BICYCLES)

secondly that anti drug campaign is about talking 2 ur parents or friends instead of going out w/ friends to do bad shit. nothing i object to there.

third, i hate to say it, but marijuana is illegal. alcohol and tobacco are not. the us government sponsors campaigns against DRUGS it doesnt usually single out marijuana because these days most kids have tried harder drugs by age 16.

but of course ad campaigns like that only piss off hypersensitive stoners anyhow

:thumbsup

Targetted marketing. Too funny. ;)

I don't have anything against anti-drug advertising, but I think its fuct to have ads superimposed on TV. We already have enough crap paying for our programming... Er, well, not here. Got a few very high-quality channels here with no ads at all.

Nor do I. My biggest gripe is that I'm forced to help pay for messages I don't necessarily agree with. Like, what if the goverment took 5% of our profits off the top and used that money to blast ALL forms of pornography as the devil's work? It just ain't a cool precedent.

Besides, stoner chicks rule! :thumbsup

Fletch XXX: do you see other advertisments in that menu spot... or is this some Orwellian propaganda pipe reserved exclusively for the government?

Don't blame me, I voted Libertarian. :thefinger

TeraBabes 11-02-2002 05:52 PM

Post a pic of it.

Sunshine McGillicutty 11-02-2002 05:55 PM

Thats fucked up.

I'm sure the "facts" are the standard bullshit lies the government has been preaching for 20 years. Incidentally, this weeks Time had a good (and quite objective) article on the pro's and con's of using marijuana. Its worth reading.

Actually, yeah. If your lifestyle includes having to stay one step ahead of the law, or doing something you know is forbidden, then I don't think you deserve special concessions. Freedom doesn't cover *everything*, and right now, drugs are one of the things on the "sorry" list. Advertising drug use is as ridiculous as advertising shoplifting.

BJ 11-02-2002 06:40 PM

abizq went bankrupt and prolly needs all the cash they can get

Pity its so abitrary which drugs are legal or illegal.

Alchohol companies can advertise their wares openly. So can pharmacutical companies.

It's hypocrisy.

gothweb 11-02-2002 06:55 PM

It isn't entirely arbitrary, but I think I agree with you. Alcohol is a sick drug, and causes more trouble than pot. Doesn't mean I want both to be freely available... Just that things should be more fair. Ideally, I'd love to see a society where people don't abuse drugs. In such a society, I would be all for legalizing just about everyhing. Back in the real world, though, I think enough kids and wives get abused by alcoholics...
