Something to think about for all you Mcain supporters!

If the US election was held anywhere else in the world Obama would win by a landslide according to polls! Why is it that the US is the only country in the world that can't see that Obama is the right candidate? Obama is leading in the US by only around 10% compared to a landslide WIN if the election was held in almost any other major country in the world. The whole world is rooting for Obama...something just seems out of whack with US politics.

to tell you the truth i think the world started losing respect for the US and thinking we were idiots when Bush got re-elected a second time. I just came back from a trip to Thailand, and the love the people have for their King is something that has been missing in the US for a long time!!! Rode in a taxi and started speaking with the taxi driver about the protests that were going on the last two days in Thailand, and he started talking about his love for the King and how all Thai people love the king, but they were protesting against some other political stuff. They even wear yellow on Mondays to show their love for the King....it actually touched me to see the people have so much respect for their ruler!! Something I can honestly say I haven't seen inside the United States since I turned of legal age awhile back.

There's a reason why we have a failing education system, no health care, lost jobs to other countries, 100,000+ Indian Casinos, and Dancing with the Stars. We ain't the brightest country on the block.

spacedog 10-08-2008 09:40 PM

and a fucking king you shall have, but unlikely you're gonna love him once he's in office.

Shaze 10-08-2008 09:43 PM

Obama doesn't even know me so i agree "he doesn't give a fuck about me", but I do have a feeling he gives a fuck about the well-being of the US and the people in general, unlike the current administration, whose governing style would continue under McCain.

Short and sweet, even "if" Obama didn't give a fuck he is the lesser of the two evils, but I wouldn't put Obama even close to the same category as Bush or McCain politics.

I have a good feeling about Obama!!!

You should have explained to her that all the other countries support Obama because their own well being is directly linked to the success of America

ding ding!!!!!!!!! you hit it right on the head!!!!! while i was in Thailand I went to dinner with some Indian friends of mine, and while talking about the election this is exactly what they said! They said that Obama (Democrats) winning the election will be good for business and the rest of the world. And if you know Indians, they live and breathe anything related to business! the success of America greatly affects other countries. This whole global financial shithole started in the US with the fucked up subprime mortage loans and it has spread to the financial economies of Japan, Philippines, Thailand, and a whole lot more countries!!!!

kane 10-08-2008 10:33 PM

To me McCain only being 10 points down while the rest of the world adores Obama is easy to explain.

First, if you live outside the US your exposure to US politics is pretty limited. Bush is very unpopular around the world and many countries connect McCain directly to Bush so they don't like him. Obama is seen by many as going in a different direction if only because he has said we should have never invaded Iraq (something most countries in the world agree with).

Second. The republicans know how to win elections. They have three basic goals.

1. ignite the culture war. To do this you preach the evils of the liberals to your hardcore base and tell them how horrible things will be for them under the mighty communist foot of the oppressing liberals. Let them know that abortions will be happening on every street corner and your 2nd grader will be taught to put on a condom. Forget that it isn't true, true has nothing to do with politics.

2. Now that your base is pissed off and rallying you shimmy just enough to the center to get the more moderate of the conservatives on your side. You tell these people that the evil liberals will take away their guns and that they will raise their taxes through the roof and give all that money to lazy people on welfare. These people work hard, you tell them, they shouldn't be paying for those who don't want to work.

3. Hope for rain. If it rains there will be a small turnout for the election. If there is a small turnout the republicans have a better shot of winning because they know their base is organized (unlike the liberal base which is all over the map. Half are too pissed to vote for anyone and the other half are lit out of their minds, eating twinkies and watching spongebob) and they will show up and vote. The lower the voter turnout the better it is for the more organized and historically that is the republicans.

4. understand that most people are not informed and don't care to be. Most people go to work, come home, run their kids to soccer or football practice, cook dinner, wash dishes and laundry then they eat and relax in front of the TV for a couple of hours before going to bed. They don't want to turn on the news or read the paper or a magazine or get online and read websites. They want to watch a sitcom or two, maybe watch a movie or an episode of CSI:Wherever then go to bed and start the day over.

When people make political decisions many of them look around and take inventory of their lives. If they have a decent house and a car that runs good and a decent job and things are pretty much okay...they are pretty happy and content and have no real reason to get involved too much in the process so when they see the election happening they catch a few sound bites, form an opinion and be done with it. If they hear McCain call Obama a liberal, for some that is enough. They don't care about reason. He is a liberal and that is a terrible thing to be so they won't vote for him. End of story no more research needed.

In the end it is not that we are stupid country. We aren't. We have stupid people in our country, but as a whole we are not dumb. The idea that America is populated by idiots is one formed by people who do not know us, have not been here and who themselves are uniformed. Our problem is that we are content. We are fat and relaxed and often self centered and that complacency makes it easy for some politicians, both republican and democrat, to convince those who are complacent to see things their way.

shwsrvcs 10-08-2008 10:34 PM

America isn't superior. The reason why we excel is because we have the ability every 4 years to re-invent ourselves.. If the US election was held anywhere else in the world, while the "WHOLE WORLD" is rooting for Obama we would be in deep shit. Every nation of the world needs to address the ills that affect their own faculties. We are in the toilet. Who has the plunger? McCain or Obama?

This is completely wrong. The US is one of the major focus points in the international community. They even show the Presidential debates live and in full around international countries.

If anything, it's the other way around. US people are so self-centered because the US has been a powerhouse in the international community for so long that they aren't exposed to international news, politics, and business because we aren't effected by it as much.

The fact that what happens in the US effects almost every international community makes international countries more aware of what is going on with the US.

Fact: A vote for McCaine is sheer ignorant stupidity there is no excuse whats so ever. None. Absolutly zero fucking reason to have Republicans run the show for another 4 years.

THere is no reason to, there is no logic to it.
It is 100% certain that a McCaine presidency would be the deathnel of America.
Literally the Deathnel of America.

Cuz McCain even if he lived the first couple years would continue on the current path the Bush Admin has and Palin as President would be just another Bush Term.

we became superior because of the past, but that era of America is gone. you can't just become a world powerhouse in a decade or two. If you look where America's political focus has been within this current era it's been towards areas rich in oil, and not focused on the well-being of the people in our nation.

to add...

i'm not saying oil isn't important...but the administration has to broaden its political focus and also take care of the problems within our nation - it's economy, people, etc... And in my eyes the right President to actually broaden the political focus of our government is Obama.

Also, the US can't just be picking fights and strong-arming every other nation that is rich in oil, and making every excuse in the world so they can send an army into a nation and establish a presence.

McCain will be more of the same "who cares what's going on with the US economy and our people, let go threaten and pick fights with other nations and find more oil!!!! while we are at it lets add Vietnam along with Indonesia to the axis of evil!!! LOL :)

I will agree that here in the US unless you watch CNN 20 hours a day the international news is pretty much limited to just stuff that involves or directly effects us. However, the few times that I have been to other countries outside the US there is not a ton of news about the details of the American political system. Then again, I will admit when I have been outside the country I haven't spent a ton of time checking into the news and reading every paper.

:Oh crap

LOL...not trying to pick a fight but your saying the fact that the world wants Obama to win is the reason why Americans shouldn't vote for Obama? that's a pretty narrow viewpoint of how to vote on this election, and a viewpoint that contradicts your "free American" statement. your a prisoner because your voting is based on voting against what the rest of the world would do, and not your view. If the world wanted McCain to win, I would still be voting for Obama because I think he would be better for the US, I could care less what the world wanted, that is what you call a "free American".

also, from your comments it's like you think the whole world has an agenda to see the downfall of America. and when i say the whole world, i don't mean the government of the countries, i'm talking about regular people in other countries like you and me. your statements show a little paranoia :2 cents:. believe it or not there are still very honest and good people in this world that want things to be better for everyone. your telling me that every single one of those polls taken in international countries were given to regular people like you and me with an agenda to see the downfall of the US?

this is the type of self-centered outlook I was talking about that most Americans have.

I guess that is what I based my info on. When I have traveled I always get a local paper and check it out. In most of those cases there was very little info about the US. I will admit during those times it wasn't an election year and there were no big international events going on that we were involved in so maybe it was just that there was a slow news cycle right then.

That said if anyone wonders how the US can effect other countries just look at the current banking crisis. We started having trouble and other countries all of a sudden are feeling the pain. There are many European and world banks that are feeling the crunch now. We live in a global economy for sure.

I think the US is the only contry that has actually developped a cult of stupidity.

Here's an excellent NYT article that imo sums it up very well: Know-Nothing Politics
Cliffnotes: Intelligence is for girls and gays. Real men don't think.

In any other contry, Obama would be elected because he's obviously the most intelligent candidate. If he actually wins the election in the US, then only because the situation has turned so desperate that voters will forgive him his intelligence.

I'm European, but I'm not saying this in order to bash Americans. If US-voters continue electing the greatest idiot they can find, things will continue getting more and more ugly not only for America, but for everybody in the world.
