Well, a good buddy of mine went completely fucking insane today
Started acting a little weird a couple weeks ago, quit drinking & smoking, went completely straight edge almost overnight, started bitching out all his friends for partying. Started going to the church almost daily. Just got the news today that he's been flying off the handle about demons and bad omens for a couple days from his roommate (who he kicked out of their apartment for drinking beer). Quit going to work so he could pray nonstop, and apparently today wound up in the psych ward. Never saw that shit coming, sounds like he may just be 100% certified schizophrenic. That shit's crazy, I've known the guy for years, Roomed with him after we graduated for a long time, we're old highschool drinkin' buddies, now he won't even associate with any of his old friends because we're all tainted by satan. Anyone else ever have to deal with this sort of shit before? It's a pretty big shock really.

In related news.. Amy Winehouse may be turning to Scientology...

It's called a "tragedy" and sadly these sorts of things are a hop skip and a jump away from most people. The human mind is SO fickle.

I see it coming for me any day now....
Like ants behind my eyes.... a void just beyond the periphery of my vision, waiting to engulf my consciousness. take my hand |
I have had a situation like this before. The guy ended up actually smashing every single thing in his home to pieces and then put his wristes through his fish tank and proceeded to spray blood over every surface that he could. Sorry to hear about your buddy too.

sucks...going crazy must be scary to those around him...you but probably him even more
cant imagine it |
So, you've never thought that he was (really) "off" until this occurred? A lot of times there is a thread of oddness leading up to a complete break down.
How old is the guy? |

Nothing a few shock waves to the brain won't cure

yep - a good childhood friend of mine developed schizophrenia - i came back from school and he called me up and I went out with him, just for a burger and beer - and it was obvious to me something was very different and wrong with him. his parents and mine were close friends so his mom called the next day and asked me if I had noticed a change in him - i said most definitely and told her how he seemed to be off in another world, as if listening to voices that weren't there and he was mumbling to himself. I told my parents that from what I saw he was schizophrenic - all the classic symptoms and my mom told me about other things his mom had told her had been happening. They hadn't been able to get him to agree to go to a doctor. Not long afterwards he went further downhill and they did get him admitted and that was the diagnosis - schizophrenia. A horrible diagnosis - the past 20 years have been a sad hell for him - he was put on meds and they help a lot but he won't stay on them and then he goes off into his strange world again - a tragedy. He had the world by the balls - wealthy parents, good looking, good athlete, lots of friends. His friends deserted him fast.

a guy i knew growing up was diagnosed with schizophrenia.. they found him in a hotel room after being missing for 15 days.. i see him around the neighborhood still but he just looks like a ghost of his former self

i've kind of gone crazy and yeah it's scary

now, i've got a couple friends who are a little bit loopy, fried themselves on acid, and other assorted chemicals. they're a little strange, but completely harmless. but this really sort of came out nowhere, the guy was a huge part animal, drank and smoked, was always having a blast. i live a weays away now, so all I have to go on is what friends living around him have to say, and it seems like he's been acting a little different for a couple months, i saw him about a month and a half ago, and he definately seemed to act a little different than i was used to. was a lot of talking about cleaning up his act and getting his shit together. which at the time i just took as a good thing, though it was out of charcter. i figured hey, if you want to focus on success, that's a good thing, everybody has to grow up sooner or later. but going on what i've been told things took a turn 2-3 weeks ago, and it's been steep slope he slid down until crashing out today. All around pretty strange news to hear...
I'm just getting more info relayed to me from different people every so often, the gossip train is off the hook tonight. my brother tells me now he disappreared for a couple of days and no one knew where he was, then all of the sudden word was that he was int he ward. not sure if he was there the whole time, or if he went off on a little schizo adventure for a couple days that landed him there. hope it's just a stress thing he can sort out for himself with some therapy. but it's really sounding a little more complex than that to me at the moment. |
I hope it's just a breakdown sort of thing and he can get past it.
But you said he quit drinking and "smoking". I've done my fair share of drugs in the past and I'm not preaching but from experience I know for a fact that using drugs can cause underlying psychological problems to surface. Problems that probably would of stayed dormant had the person not used drugs. Everything from panic attacks to full blown psychosis. |
That really sucks dude.

I had a situation happen many years ago when I worked for Kodak in London. I was friends with a guy who worked there part time while studying for a PHD. He seemed extremely intelligent always studying. He married a great girl who also worked at Kodak. Well, about 6 to 8 months after her married I heard he jumped over the counter in the Kodak employee restaurant took, off all his cloths, picked up the biggest knife he could find and cut of his balls and dick off in one swipe. He then got into the elevator to the ground floor and proceeded to run along Holborn high street bleeding profusely and holding his dick and balls up high for all to see. He was such a nice quite guy, I felt so sorry for his new wife. I never did find out if he lived or died ? :Oh crap:Oh crap

Curious as to how old he was. I've watched this happen to someone as well... basically what they call "Drug-Induced Psychosis". Sucks to watch it happen to someone you know, one minute they seem normal, next minute it's like someone walked in a flicked the light switch and some whacked stranger replaced them. :Oh crap
|
Honestly, brain tumors can severely alter peoples behavior.. you watch House?
|
whatever it is, it definately is horrible, i've seen and heard some very sad shit, and i took a train though crazy town myself, and god damn, it is a crazy world we live in and people seem fairly fragile.
|
he's 24, i've witnessed a drug induced psychosis or two. i know some people who are really fucking out there. but i don't really think this has anything to do with drugs really. perhaps, but he never really liked smoking weed, used to do some coke and e, but not overly heavy by any means, and hasn't touched anything harder than a shot of tequila in at least a good year as far as anyone knows.
his cousin died in a pretty horrific accident back int he spring, and i suspect it has hard a pretty profound effect on him. i can understand how that would set someone in a different state of mind, i suspected it a little when we had the conversation a while back abot him "getting his shit together." i can even see how this would turn someone towards god, but man, to fall into such a state of god fearing that you shun all your friends quit working, and dedicate 100% of your time to the lord, while ranting and screaming about demons and bad omens, seems to be a little over the top. that just sound sot me, a little bit, well schizo. but hey, i'm no psychiatrist. i'm hoping for the best, but judging by what i've been told by people near him recently, it sounds as though he's been acting pretty fucking off the walls as of lately. who really knows though, perhaps it's been building for a long time now, could have been anything that drew the final straw and set it off. |
|
An honest thought: if he has a brain tumor, and he smoked marijuana, that could have been slowing the growth. He stops smoking, tumor grows, changes his personality. Could be benign but he should get checked for that.
