Did McCain insult black people during the debate last night?

He told the black guy that asked a question about the bailout, "Really the match that lit this fire was Fannie Me and Freddie Mac. I'll bet you, you may never even heard of them before this crisis."

Was he insulting that one guy, or his entire race? How could you NOT have heard of Fannie or Freddie before this crisis?

Eriic 10-08-2008 10:01 AM

John McCain didn't hear of them before the crisis so what's your point?

Less than 50% of black people (and Latino too actually) own their homes in the United States. :2 cents:

TheSenator 10-08-2008 10:09 AM

Yeah, McCain is just a natural cock.

One way or the other, thatīs not like a president should behave.:2 cents:

danayster 10-08-2008 10:14 AM

Bottom line is, he's a prick. Reminds me of my old boss "Today will be your last day consulting with us, I unfortunately dont see a fit for you in the new structure of the department" that c*ck gobbler. Actually I should be thanking him, because of him I went out and built my dating/tube site and made over 12K last month alone and now work in my peejays from the desk in my bedroom :)

cherrylula 10-08-2008 10:22 AM

if you pause the video, you can see him throw up the \X/ symbol real quick.

"westside"

tiger 10-08-2008 10:37 AM

He just wanted to appear as though he had some insight into the crisis.

Yeah? Now let's make it fair.

Do you know the mileage between services on a Lamborghini? How about what the warranty covers and does not cover? How much is the dealer PDI on a brand new Lamborghini?

You see. You know what it is, but you don't know any real details of ownership, do you?

Why would someone who's never owned a home know the details of mortgages? They probably wouldn't.

It not about race either, fully 1/3 of white folks are in the same boat.

spacedog 10-08-2008 11:11 AM

His comment was an indirect implication in reference to Obama's campaign being the number 2 spot of contributions made by Fannie/Freddie

Ron Bennett 10-08-2008 11:55 AM

McCain made a comment, that in the view of many, was far worse ... when he referred to Obama as "that one".

Ron

100% agreed. First he wants to be down with the people and next he treats them like idiots.

xmas13 10-08-2008 12:00 PM

The median net worth of the average African American family is $6,000.

mynameisjim 10-08-2008 12:04 PM

I thought it was worse when we called Obama "that one". Seems very dismissive when you call another person "that one".

ADL Colin 10-08-2008 12:05 PM

You think he mighta just lost the 1/2 of 1% of the black vote he was gonna get?

"That one" :1orglaugh

Such a stuffy uncomfortable little man ...

:1orglaugh he owned Obama last night

Sarah_Jayne 10-08-2008 12:10 PM

I hate that tone of voice he takes when he says things like that. That sort of whisper patronizing voice like 'you little people wouldn't understand'.

madm1k3 10-08-2008 12:10 PM

the "that one" comment was so racist, I don't think that McCain is racist but to reffer to Obama as an object and not a human being is pretty bad

GigoloShawn 10-08-2008 12:10 PM

...you've got to be kidding me.

Hazlewood 10-08-2008 12:16 PM

dont think it was a "black" insult but was jsut stating a point that those 2 names have been frequent with the current crisis.

Although, McCain is a douche

Drake 10-08-2008 12:18 PM

I think you're reading too much into it. I don't think there were any racial undertones at all.

However, I think the "that one" comment was a flippant remark showing his utter contempt and disdain for Obama, as if it wasn't clear enough already.

I think McCain is a bit of an old curmudgeon that is pissed because he feels he is entitled to walk into the role of President.

mvee 10-08-2008 12:31 PM

He was just insulting period. Really embarrassing. All that condescending 'My Friends' BS. He just reminded me of some creepy old man at a nieces 16th b-day with all of her friends around. BTW - he totally violated the rules by shaking hands with the retired military guy. Touching the audience has been not allowed since Clinton did the ' I feel your pain' line against GB. Sr.

Martin 10-08-2008 12:34 PM

He's just a creepy ass old man. Why would anybody vote for this pasty white zombie?

I agree it didn't seem racist but surely another sign of personal hate. Lets face it, Obama came into this as the huge underdog and is now on top, wouldn't you be bitter? McCain probably thought he had things locked down.

The quote was that McCain said the guy had never "heard" of Fannie... Freddie.

I guess I should have said.. I don't own a Lambo... but I've "heard" of them. You are right though, I have HEARD of them, but I don't know fuck all about them.

But as far as knowing details of mortgages... McCain didn't say that. He just said you've probably never even heard of them. Hearing of them and knowing the details of how each works are two totally different meanings as you pointed out by asking if I know the mileage of a lambo.

xmas13 10-08-2008 01:49 PM

What's Lamborghini? A new brand of spaghetti? :)

Tom_PM 10-08-2008 02:02 PM

He's old. Hate to say it, but seriously. He looks back to how the US left troops in Japan and Germany and Korea as "normal" for petes sake when referring to his 100yr Iraq comment.

Nobody told him that even when people hear his words *IN* context, that those were fine modern tactics........ 60 years agooooooo.

And look at today! His comments about "Chicago politicians" is ZOOMING right over younger and older voters heads! You need to be 60+ to remember that chicacgo was ONCE UPON A TIME known for ultra corrupt politicians. Someone tell him they caught Al Capone.

smutnut 10-08-2008 02:50 PM

This is so funny.

I'm a democrat and pro-Obama, but a white person can't say a word without it being considered racist.

I remember when Planet of the Apes came out and people started saying it was racist, seriously. If you don't believe me look it up.

abadfish 10-08-2008 03:05 PM

I don't think anything he said was racially motivated but he definitely speaks in a condescending manner.

My mother said that "my friends" is a generational thing and meant as a friendly term but it was seriously getting on my nerves.

As far as I know Obama may still be the underdog. It ain't over 'til it's over.

You have to forgive McCain, his dad was Confederate admiral during the Civil War

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 10-08-2008 05:08 PM

Yeah that was pretty bold statement he made.
Highly condecending.

WHen he said that I choked on my pork chop while eating abruptly.

Yeah I get that, but for me I'm sick of havig our tropps there. The Cold War is over and Japan and Europe have the money and the manpower to protect themselves. So anyone suggesting we have something similar is Iraq well I'm against that. We could be using these troops at our own border helping keep out the invasion form Mexico.

Agreed. People said Kerry had won the debates and than he lost the election. It is not over until the votes are in. Debates really don't mean jack.

brassmonkey 10-08-2008 05:12 PM

damn why is race always a damn issue:helpme

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 10-08-2008 05:21 PM

Let me just interject McCaine could have said the same thing to a white guy or mexican and either way it was just down right insulting. I do not think it was a matter of race so much as it was a position of Condecending to fellow Americans intelligence and understanding of our system.

Nope ... what Mccain did was a poor attempt at race baiting

he was hoping that that was the conversation in the next news cycle and thus changing the conversation from the economy

.... sneaky.... creative...... low ? yes

Effective?....... No!:2 cents:

Raz 10-09-2008 12:03 PM

Like him or not Barack Obama is a human being not an inanimate
object. He's a fellow senator. What McCain did was total b.s.

McCain doesn't know how to lose with class and he's losing badly.
Where is the dignified old warrior from 2000 who would never have
hired the very same slimy people who trashed his name on behalf
of George Bush, to run his 2008 campaign?

He's obviously lost his marbles.

Who is this weird cranky old POD man pretending to be John McCain?

brassmonkey 10-09-2008 12:14 PM

thank GOD its almost election time
