How has GFY changed over time?

I read a lot of posts here, from people who say they "miss the old days" here on GFY - and that things have really changed.

I wasn't around in the "old days" so I'm curious what has changed so much?

My guess is that in the "old days" everyone was making WAY more money than they are now, so people just remember them as better times in general, but again, I was not around, so maybe it is more than that.

Just wondering....

RedShoe 10-08-2008 08:23 AM

Back in the early days of GFY there was no surfers.

There was less pissing matches.

Adult Check was boasting about it's 6,000th site in it's network.

Juicy actually owned a website and hardly posted.

BoneProne was the Juicy back then.

People were making shitloads more money and trading links and helping people was the norm.

If you had an actual problem you could post it here and people would actually help you solve it instead of calling you names.

Pic posting wasn't done, and so legit business threads got more views than they do today.
There used to be contests at milestones like the first time the board hit 1 million new threads.

D$ was the man and no one knew his little brother.

YnotBob actually used to hang out here.

Rylos and AMP were the best designers that hung out here. (there were more designers that were just as good, but none of them hung out here)

Tanker and Wizzo used to work for Lens and hung out here a lot. Had lots of funny moments with them.

People from here would exchange phone #'s and actually call each other to work out business deals.

GFY wasn't used for skinning.

There was less, sigs and avatars didn't exist.

Cheshire, enough said.

Keev and SixNine were the two tallest guys here and used to help out a lot with marketing and business threads.

WiredGuy never told us his most coveted secrets... not even back then, so nothing has changed in that respect. LOL

Back then Juicy posted so little, and all his posts were actually business related that I used to have a hard time telling him apart from SleazyDream.

Times were different man. Results were almost instant. You could build something back than and would know right away if it was a good effort or not. Now you have to build 300 of them and wait to see if it works against tubes or not.

PPC was actually a good way to make money back then.

And finally...

[Labret] again.. enough said.

Less sigwhores and idiots cluttering up shit and was very renegade.

Oh, and when someone got called out it meant something, was the real deal and shit happened.

The Duck 10-08-2008 08:28 AM

Is there someone who has been around a long time that noone knows who it is up until this day?

Wizzo 10-08-2008 08:30 AM

I think Redshoe summed it up pretty well! :pimp

The Truth Hurts 10-08-2008 08:31 AM

You sure about that?

I never remembered him posting here back then, in fact when I would ICQ him a GFY thread he told me he didn't post here. But that was only a few years ago.

But I see he's posting here now though.

Fletch XXX 10-08-2008 08:33 AM

And if you were a guy pretending to be a girl posting pics of your pussy, youd be called out on it....

I miss those days too, when men were men and didnt let the hopes of icq pussy cloud their judgement

CDSmith 10-08-2008 08:38 AM

There definitely were a lot less come-and-go keyboard pissants.

For the rest of it see Redshoe's post.

Well I haven't been to a convention in years. And when I used to go, I'd meet him and shake his hand and he'd give me a T-shirt. And I've never really been much of a presence anywhere but here.

Oh and another thing... THE GOD DAMN SEARCH here used to fucking work. It didn't have any of the bullshit time limits it does now. Kinda fucked up that GFY... owned by.... and the hosting company.. and... aww fuck it, I learned from Dean's mistakes.

dropped9 10-08-2008 04:35 PM

What about to win a content you'd have to be the 50th post? LOLOLOOL

Mutt 10-08-2008 04:37 PM

less phonies - when I got here in August of 2002 GFY was just about to blow up huge as a board - i'm sure the early pioneers of GFY like Boneprone wish it hadn't been discovered by the masses - once GFY hit critical mass and big programs, medium and small programs all realized they had to be here and sent their drone marketing reps here it began it's descent - then the sig whore craze - the contest whores - the surfers - most of the GFY pioneers either left the business or stopped posting much, it wasn't the same intimate place anymore for them.

GFY isn't what it was - but no other board has been able to forge its own identity and success - must be a hundred boards, some better than others, but GFY is still the place to be if you want somebody to notice something you're doing.

the people that stir the GFY drink have changed - I never saw Boneprone is his prime.

I cannot dispute that gfy is a success...

But let's not forget the ynot board, then the condom/netpond main board dominating the webmaster scene along with it's newbie board...

And then from there Oprano and GFY splintered off of netpond... With gfy clearly being the winner in that contest....
