Other candidates used to be involved in debates because the debates were controlled by a nonpartisan group, the Women's League of Voters. But when people like Ross Perot started to rock their establishment, guess who took over control of the debates? The Republicrats control the debates now.
Here is what the Women's League of Voters officially said about giving up control of the debates:
"The League of Women Voters is withdrawing sponsorship of the presidential debates...because the demands of the two campaign organizations would perpetrate a fraud on the American voter. It has become clear to us that the candidates' organizations aim to add debates to their list of campaign-trail charades devoid of substance, spontaneity and answers to tough questions. The League has no intention of becoming an accessory to the hoodwinking of the American public."

You still don't get it man, and it's okay, it's not your fault. Everyone in America has been indoctrinated into this system since birth... it's hard to wake up and see what's going on. Most people have such busy lives that they don't even have time to know the mainstream knowledge that they are "supposed to know," let alone what is really going on.
The citizens can't do shit about the rigged system until they KNOW ABOUT IT. Most people, I'd say at least 70-80% of Americans still have no clue that they are being bamboozled.
Even you think there will be a huge difference between a McCain administration and an Obama administration.

Good for votes, bad show of personality. The format was agreed on by both campaigns, and sticking by the agreements you make is a fairly important trait. Politicians renegotiating their promises isn't something you want.

Not that debates necessarily matter, but it was clearly another victory for Obama. More focused, more coherent, more specific, overall better answers.
