how hard is it to install tv wall mount?

I have a small 13" toshiba tv its a crt. Its takes up too much room on my desk. Was thinking of mounting it on the wall. Is it something I can do myself or should I hire someone?

Supz 10-07-2008 03:05 PM

not hard all, Just make sure you find a stud to put the mount in to

JFK 10-07-2008 03:06 PM

get a stud finder, just to be safe:thumbsup

brand0n 10-07-2008 03:06 PM

for what you are talking about, no not really

for a 50+ plus flat screen, its defently harder then what i thought, and i wouldnt ever do it again

tony286 10-07-2008 03:07 PM

Thanks guys, I will get the kit and a stud finder. :)

atom 10-07-2008 03:08 PM

like everyone said, get a stud finder. Your local hardware store should sell them for about 20-30 bucks. I bought one but i think it was broken, all it did was beep and point to me

;)

WebairChris 10-07-2008 03:22 PM

Very easy to do Tony you should have no problem as long as you get the stud finder you will be fine. Bets of Luck!

I just put a 50" Plasma on the wall in my bedroom. Used a stud finder with a laser on it, and another laser with a level so I drilled the holes the same height in the wall.

Drilled the first 2 holes, mounted the bracket on the wall loosely so I could mark and drill the bottom 2 holes. Screwed the bolts in nice and tight with a ratchet. Then I put the other part of the mount on the TV with the included bolts, had my girlfriend help me lift the tv up & onto the mount on the wall. Took maybe 30 - 45 minutes total.

Either tonight or tomorrow I will run the HDMI cables and the power cord inside the wall so they cant be seen. I expect that to be harder and take longer than putting the tv itself on the wall.

Kevin Marx 10-07-2008 07:24 PM

Very easy to do. I have done it with 3 TV's in our house. Looks nice and clean.. yeah, just hide those cables in the wall and it looks oh so pretty.

budz 10-07-2008 08:04 PM

dont mount it too far away :x

Are you high? An impact drill would be a very bad idea and I mean very bad. Besides potential damage to the drywall it could also cause the stud to crack or split.

Normal drill, drill pilot hole first and then add your screws/bolts. Try not to over tighten so that you collapse it into the drywall.

XPays 10-07-2008 08:19 PM

it took me 2 days to do mine myself and it was a pain- chief double arm fyi

worked fine for me with no damage to either

BV 10-07-2008 09:18 PM

i hung a 46" no problem,

the mount even came with a studfinder (i already had one though)

problem is i had to let my girl use the stud finder, every time i touched it it would go off

'So Fucking Money 10-07-2008 09:20 PM

Easy stuff. You can even buy a good mount from ebay. Make sure that you have a good stud finder. If you are afraid that it may be off you can always use small finishing nails to make sure that the stud is in the center. It's one thing you dont want falling off your wall ;)

BV 10-07-2008 09:21 PM

if you dont have a stud finder just use a drill and a small 1/8 th inch drill bit to find each side of the stud then go for the center of the two with the lag bolt, pre drill the lag bolt hole

then the rest of the studs should be every 16" on center if your house is built to code

Can you see the stud, have you seen it since you attached mount?
I too have done a lot of shit that worked just fine for me with no damage and well it was not the right way nor the smart way to do something.

yeah cuz i ended up having to open up the wall to re-wire my cable connection cuz of a bad cable inside the wall, the stud is in perfect condition

i wouldnt have said no damage if there had been

Are you calling him a monkey?

Or does he need to hire one?

:upsidedow

dav3 10-08-2008 05:30 AM

It's easy. Just find the studs, mark the holes, make sure the marks are level and screw the plate to the wall. Don't mount it too high though because looking up will hurt your neck and it sucks having to redo it. :winkwink:

The mount for the 13" would be even more easy, since it will probably just go into one stud.

georgeyw 10-08-2008 05:38 AM

Tony, it's an easy process. Do not use an impact drill :1orglaugh (dumbest shit i've ever heard). An impact drill is for MASONARY:1orglaugh

Stud finder or just tap on the wall, very easy to hear the difference. Such a small tv would be finee with wallmates - they are plastic plugs that support 20 to 30 kilos a piece.

pornguy 10-08-2008 05:40 AM

Even though that tv is small and a lot cheaper than most, I would be very careful.

We are renting this house while we look for something to buy. The place is built of block like most in the area. When we moved in, the wife wanted to hang some of our paintings. a few of which are very freakin heavy. did all the drilling put in the anchors, and all, and one ripped a hole in the weak spot of the block. Lucky it fell and hit an empty chair and did not break anything. But left a hole in the wall.

I dont tend to hang thigns heavy unless I know a lot about where I am hanging them.

Nah I'm just saying that if a monkey could do it, well then surely he could as well.

Wait did that come out right? :1orglaugh

Uh, if you want to fuck up your wall majorly. Just set your drill to the low speed, high torque setting and drill a pilot 1/2 the size of the shaft diameter of the bolt beforehand.

No need to break out the big boys over this little project. :)

Persius 10-08-2008 02:09 PM

www.monoprice.com Awesome prices for professional mounts.. got mine there and installed it myself ... 42 inc LCD =)

Nah, go to home depot and get some "Tapcon" screws. The pack will come with the certain size masonry bit and the tapcons screw right into the hole nice and tight.

Screen room builders use them a lot for mounting shit onto concrete slabs and walls.

Good for hurricane season also if your trying to board up your windows on a CBS home.

For a small tv no problem mounting the mount right to the cement wall.

If it's a larger TV I would mount two 2 x 6's to the wall first with a generous amount of Tapcons, then attach your mount to the 2 x 6's with some lag bolts.

Due 10-08-2008 04:13 PM

Not really difficult, if you got thin walls make sure you got a TV to hang in the room on the other side of the wall as well (yes I'm talking from experience :1orglaugh:helpme)

i did the same thing, if you can hang a picture or a mirror on the wall its not much different, me being the procrastinator that i am, i still dont have the wires ran yet.
