Google just saved you $600! Yahoo! Directory not as important...

Google's John Mueller in a Google Groups thread said:

"I wouldn't necessarily assume that we're devaluing Yahoo's links, I just think it's not one of the things we really need to recommend," said Mueller. "If people think that a directory is going to bring them lots of visitors (I had a visitor from the DMOZ once), then it's obviously fine to get listed there. It's not something that people have to do though :-)."

Well, the Yahoo! Directory charges $600/year for Adult links...So, on the bright side, that's an extra $600 you can spend elsewhere!

Sadly, that was the going rate...From https://ecom.yahoo.com/dir/submit/intro/ :

Getting answers fast is important to your business. With Yahoo! Directory Submit, your request to be listed in the Directory will be reviewed and the Yahoo! editorial team will respond to you within 7 business days, for a review fee of only $299 ($600 for adult sites). If your listing is accepted into the Directory, there will be a $299 recurring annual fee in subsequent years ($600 for adult sites) to maintain the listing.

If Adult pulls out, Yahoo! is losing a HUGE income stream...hence the +1 Google. :winkwink:

indeed. thats a rip off anyway when you can submit to DMOZ for free. directory listings are going to do much, especially at $600 a pop I can imagine anyone make a ROI on that

Fuck yahoo's fee... but I'm not giving any props to google, Fuck google too.

Its going to turn into an evil ass raping entity like every company started with good intentions. Other than their search algorithm all they do is "borrow" most of their ideas from other places and repackage them.

Never praise google. Google can eat a load of my manchowder.

Damn, I remember having the number to Yahoo and just calling up and telling them what sites I wanted listed and they would add them while I was on the phone lol

Tempest 10-07-2008 02:25 PM

Unless things have changed recently, when looking at the Yahoo SERPs it was pretty clear that being listed in their directory helped rank you higher.

JamesK 10-07-2008 02:52 PM

$600 for that is a fucking ripoff. I've tried it out a while back

DarkJedi 10-07-2008 02:55 PM

Google may not give it much credit, but don't forget that the $600 yahoo directory listing is still very good for ranking in Yahoo

:2 cents:

Success! :thumbsup

Well, it seems as though Google is basically discrediting Yahoo!...If you get a lot of traffic from Yahoo!, then that's something else (I know, obvious).

I'm surprised Google hasn't made a pay directory...

brand0n 10-07-2008 03:05 PM

i do not know one person, company, or site thats paid that.

just me personally

baddog 10-07-2008 03:09 PM
