Just got a call from a aircraft carrier

My daughter is on west pac on the USS Ronald Reagon(CVN 76), she can call from time to time using a pay phone system on board for about $20 for 40 minutes I think. She'll be here for thanksgiving. She just earned her Surface Warfare Pin, plus several other ribbons and a couple medals for humanitarian efforts. She's been to several countries and is getting a pretty good education, she'll be going to college when she gets out, probably here locally since we have some good colleges here. Never thought I would be a parent of a sailor, being a single dad of a girl, but she's never gone with the normal path. I do have to say, I'm very proud of her!

Wow.. I got mine on a Salvage and Rescue ship, USS Conserver, ARS-39. Small ship, not much going on..

I can't conceive of qualifying for ESWS on a carrier.

On the ARS, we had to learn every detail of every system AND every watch station.

On a carrier, that would take decades :)

Congrats to her - that's a hell of an accomplishment!

Very, very cool post :)

Thanks for sharing vendzilla.

She made a great choice. I got out after 4 years, I regret it.....Retired before 40 and I am unemployed and 46.

Something to think about.

_Richard_ 10-07-2008 11:50 AM

glad to hear she's going to be home for turkey.. how long till she's in college?

DaddyHalbucks 10-07-2008 12:07 PM

Cool.

All Americans should support our great troops.

Almost Evil 10-07-2008 12:09 PM

That's awesome! Im sure youre a proud dad- and you should be :)

Rochard 10-07-2008 12:59 PM

Why have her go to college when she gets out? Why not encourage her to stay in and go to college? Fuck it, if the US Navy is willing to pay for it then go for it!

And with the way things are right now.... Staying in is a great idea - She doesn't have to worry about a job, that's for sure!

She wants to get into Holistic Medicine They don't teach that in the military, she's always be interested in Herb's

Dude she could retire before forty and never have to worry about money. There is nothing wrong with going to college after she finishes her career, she can learn it and start a new career and that's great cause she will be financially secure and free to do whatever she wants. I wish I had stayed in and made that choice.:thumbsup

she wants to do things her way, she has been raised to think for herself and not take shit from anyone, so whatever she decides to do with her life, I'll support, I just want her to be happy
