Okay you health freaks.

What's the best all round juicer? Something I can use for a bunch of broccoli as well as a handful of fruit.

I remember some infomercial about one that you just toss in the entire plant and drink the results. Probably leaning towards that kind of quality.

What do you suggest?

Spunky 10-06-2008 06:44 PM

Jack LaLanne

Not sure I understand. Has a lifetime warranty, so they must be a little confident. And who is charging a grand?

Okay, I started reading reviews and one of the first I come across suggests it isn't very good with fruit, with a defender offering, "it wasn't made for fruit."

Your input? and do you do bananas and oranges with the skin on or off?

I leave skin on all I pass threw this badboy, I just brushed under water what ever I put in to clean and that's it.

I mix everything in there, broccoli, carrot, celery, apples, pineapples... You name it if it doesn't have a big seed in the middle like a mango then it can go in the juicer. The thing with a juicer if you put soft fruits (berries) in it then you won't get much juice. You're better off with good blender for those.

Lots of stuff comes with a lifetime warranty (minus shipping and handling) that is still an inferior product. I really think they know that the majority will not take the time and pay the small amount of money to replace items.

Examples of 1000.00 plus juicers can be found in professional models. Example

Here is a link to the Breville. http://www.amazon.com/Breville-JE900.../dp/B00008ZCKV

Yeah, I just came back to say I noticed that warranty was limited to the motor. I had just glanced the page as I wanted to check out the others as well. Glad I did.

Have you ever tried the Acme 6001?

I've had mine for over 2 years now and to be honest there's no way I could break anything else then motor as it's really sturdy plastic.

I paid a bit more then $70.00 for mine and for the usage I do, if I was to break a piece tomorrow I'd just buy another one. Way cheaper then paying $1000.00 imho since I don't run a health spa or gym :2 cents:

The ACME is only $200, and the reviews I saw on the Hamilton seem to indicate the pulp is still pretty wet (juice in it), whereas the pulp is dry on the ACME.

Thoughts?

What's the easiest to clean also?

I did look at that juicer and what turned me off was the idea of using paper filters.

They all are slightly annoying but it only takes a few minutes to clean the one I posted. Honestly about the same amount of time as it takes me to clean out the blender after a use.

I have used the Jack LaLanne unit for 4 years without any serious issues. I takes anything i throw at it. Even potatoes turnips parsnips with hardly any noticable drop in speed. The only other unit that works better is a Champion Juicer but its expensive and is not easy to clean

I chuck the Jack LaLanne unit in the dishwasher and walk away :thumbsup

Now if money is no object I have a commercial unit that cost around $5000.00 i could recommend ? :winkwink:

czarina 10-06-2008 07:30 PM

a grand for a juicer sounds like a lot of money to me for something a blender can most likely do... but I'm a neophyte :P

I have a few things I would do with $5k before I spent it on a juicer. :1orglaugh

Yeah the ACME as a good price point but to me looking at pics of parts it looks a little bit harder to clean, I just pass mine under very hot water right after I use it takes less then 2 minutes.

As for juice in pulp, I've done orange juice only a few times in it and to me seems that what was left in the bucket was pretty dry and I got lots of juice out of it. I mostly use mine for Veggie juices with apples and pears and harder type fruits the orange as I still believe best tasting OJ is pressed.

how does broccoli juice taste like?

I've been looking for a juicer that was affordable, but most everything I've come across has reviews that says it is hard to clean. Glad to hear people say that they've found easy clean ones.

I have one that I got at Walmart, used it once, and after the pita cleaning, have never used it again.

mynameisjim 10-06-2008 09:07 PM

Why juice? Just eat the vegetables and fruits as they are.

tiger 10-06-2008 09:09 PM

Vitamix. Expensive but worth it.

That's true. Just throw it all in a juicer and slam it down.

You must get some crazy taste combos though. Not so much with the fruits but I'm not sure how well vegetables mix.

I've had the Breville Juice Fountain for a few years and it works great. I agree that it's a bit annoying but cleaning it's not too bad especially when you consider that you're putting whole fruit in it peels/rinds and all.

It's much easier and faster to clean than a blender IMO.

true.

IF the goal is maximum nutrition a blender makes more sense than a juicer because most of
the nutrition is (usually) discarded after extracting the liquid.

a simple walmart blender for 50 bucks will grind up some strawberries, and a banana, or whatever and just add a little milk or orange juice and drink it down.

a favorite of mine is a cup of blueberries, a banana, 2 scoops of chocolate whey protein, some ice and a little milk, makes a really nice low cal "shake" that tastes good and fills you up like a meal, really good after the daily bike ride, as a plus the blender on high speed mixes air into it so it makes it thick like a shake, don't drink it all?---then stick it in the freezer and you have low cal "ice cream" to eat while watching tv at night.

but, if you must have a juicer the jack lalane deal is ok, nice machine at good price, i've seen them at costco, about a 100 bucks i think. LOTS of them for sale on ebay from folks who drank a lot of sweet juice but couldn't figure out why they still had the big belly.

After Shock Media 10-06-2008 10:36 PM

I admit I use mine primarily for canning and preserves so for me they are priceless.
