In ability to concentrate !!!!!!!!!! what can help ?

Sometime I have a hard time staying focussed. I get distracted easily. Any tips on what can help me stay focused . Starbucks isn't cutting it lol :disgust

rule #1: do not open GFY while you are working...
you can visit GFY however after the work is done...

I have the same problem. I was diagnosed with ADHD in something like 1968 - before ADHD was cool :)

I took drugs for years as a kid, but ended up pretty strung out from them. They passed out dexedrine like it was candy. I was taking something like...

hey - wanna ride bikes?

NTSS 10-06-2008 04:30 PM

fish oil, get some omega 3. i heard it works great. good for the heart and joints too.

mx8829 10-06-2008 04:42 PM

I've been hearing alot about omega 3, I'll check it out

In all honesty you may have ADHD. Its totally normal, many people have it including myself except most do not know it or bother having it diagnosed and treated by a therapist.
There are some great drugs for this. Aderol is the most popular as its widely abused by college students for studying, but its quite strong. I currently prefer Strattera, it has less side effects and gets the job done. Also its not a controlled substance like Aderol.

For me its like night and day when I forget to take my pill. I find my thoughts going in circles without treatment. Just one Strattera in the morning and I'm glued to the computers working efficiently all day. With aderol it was too much, a bookshelf can fall next to me and I wouldn't budge. lol It also made sleeping difficult. Its great for when you have huge deadlines like finals, hence why so many college kids abuse it.

danayster 10-06-2008 04:56 PM

I've be the focus king if all it took was water. I drink like a gallon a day during warm weathers.

You may have dopamine deficiency. Try some supplemental l-thyrison and maybe even go see a doctor and get some Wellbutrin or deprenyl.

Caffeine often causes some people to be less focused and more hyper/jittery. I would cut that out first.
Next I would think about your work environment. Often ones work area makes it hard to concentrate and really sit still.
Fish oil is not a bad idea anyways, just make sure it is certified mercury free first.
I also would encourage spending some time with a hobby that requires patience and concentration. This would be for me something I would pursue well before any drugs including a variety of herbals.

No GFY. Aderrall. Quiet place that has no distractions. No radio / TV.

Read Napoleon Hill's Think and Grow Rich. Have a strong definite aim and a reason for why you must get it done.

BV 10-06-2008 06:06 PM

are you depressed?

See a doctor and get some meds.

I was going to say fish oil/omega 3 as well. But, my son (who doctors have said is not ADD or ADHD) won't sit the fuck still. At Wegman's, my wife and I found this orange flavored squeeze tube of Omega-3 for kids. Claimed it helps the brain focus and blah blah blah. We gave him the stuff for about two weeks, and he ended up bouncing off the wall worse than he already was. Needless to say, we threw the rest of that shit in the trash. I guess it affects everyone differently.

I too am ADHD....

I make lists of things ot be done and include treats after tasks...

IE:
Do my emails!
Write one blog entry!
Surf my 2 fave sites.
Write 5 blog entries.
Surf GFY!

On and on until my list for the day is done.

Keeps me goofing off and getting all my shit done too.

Oh and a good size doobie after work ;)

Get one of those timers you use for cooking or even a stop watch. Set 1 hour on it and then do nothing but one task. Shut off your phone / icq etc. Also at work I have installed a firewall that blocks gfy, yahoo finance etc. Use http://www.rescuetime.com/ to tell how much time you are wasting.

Yoga / Meditation also help which I do these days. The key thing is not to have a "moneky mind" (not hop from one task to another every 2 min)

Best to practice taking Omega-3 now.

Some of the Science and Health Benefits, omega-3 fatty acids:

1. Comprise the phospholipid bilayer in the membrane of cells
2. Affect cell signaling and gene expression
3. Are primary components of brain (grey matter), retina and other nerve tissue
4. Form the foundation for pro-inflammatory and inhibitory compounds such as Thomboxane A2
5. Play a key role in the prevention and management of chronic diseases

budz 10-06-2008 07:27 PM

I have the same problem when I'm out of weed :(

like I have 50 million thoughts and no focus without it.

Penny24Seven 10-06-2008 08:15 PM

clear all the shit off yoru desk, the pictures the pens (except the one you use), turn the tv off, get the pet out of the room. Or make them stay in the room. And when you wake up either make a list of what you want to do and finish for the day or have it already made up from the night before but don't put 83 things on the list. Make another list for what you want to get done at a later date . If your list has 82 items and you do 30 you will feel like you didn't get enough done, So do like me and make a list like this..
1.Eat breakfast
2. check email,
3. nap time
4. hmmm is the price as right on yet..
5. email cable company to see if they can move price as right to later time
6. go buy TIVO
7. nap time
8. rhymes with masturbate so might as well
9. make tomorrows list so it is ready for when you wake up
10. go to bed so you can do it all over again,

The to do list really helps allot. I use those small writing pads strictly for that. I also have a large 8x11 size notebook for task lists that need more details. I've tried keeping the lists on the computers but that never seems to work, I always seem to stray from it.
