How often do you back up your main machine?
Not your content, I back up content straight away.
But I backup my main machine about once a month, data, emails, stupid pictures of family, stolen mp3's and such. I do it in case I get a virus I can't get rid of.. How often for you? |
nightly .........
|
Not as often as I'd like but I have a 1tb external being delivered this week which will greatly increase the frequency of my updates.
|
I use EMC Retrospect to backup everything in my home network nightly. You can specify folders and a schedule of course. These backups go directly to DVD9s

Every hour, via TimeMachine on my Mac. Seem to works pretty well, have 750gig WD MyBook.

and burning of DVD's is boring.... so 1TB external hard drive should do the trick and it's not way too expensive... PS: according to law (at least in my country) companies must have backups on a secondary location distanced at least 500 meters from the computer where the data is stored... |

Every other day is good enough for me

I use a redundant 3TB RAID array so my data is already "half" backed up. I then do a regular dump to one of two 1TB drives in a removable caddy; one lives at my mothers place, and they're swapped each time I see her.

Much easier to drag and drop to an external hard drive. I bought a 350 GB one not too long ago from Futureshop on sale for $69. |
i back it up into other machines that I don't back up
|
the biggest pain is backing up sites that are scattered all over various hosts..... relying on the hosting company is a risk :2 cents:
|
Not as often as I should
|
monthly here, for all documents, email, sponsor details, passwords etc
|
I use Time Machine to create hourly back ups onto one drive.
I use SuperDuper to clone my hard drive every night at 3am to a bootable volume (Time Machine backups are not bootable) I have a media hard drive that SuperDuper also mirrors to another hard drive after it's done backing up the main internal. Why? Say my laptop is stolen, and my external hard drive with the back on on it fails? Then the back up of my back up will sort me out. Yes, unlikely, but you never know. Two types of people in the world. Those that have had a hard drive fail on them, and those that are going to. Oh, and I also use Mozy online offsite backup for the essential business files in case of house fire etc. I am one paranoid motherfucker. :) But I know my data is safe. |
