do you still like Metallica?
 

I just posted to another thread regarding their newest album. Overall...

- James doesn't sing with the same level of intensity anymore
- Their newest single is totally under-powered/produced
- Lars continues to screw up the band's image by acting kinda cheesy
- What the hell is up with Kirk's guitar solo in their newest single!??


In my opinion they were truly amazing starting from Master of Puppets up until the Black album - then everything went downhill.

Do you agree or disagree?

Their new album is dope.

I don't think the new album is that great. I think that the production is horrible, the drums sound like crap and overall, the music is just lacking something.

I'm not sure if it's just the fact that I really can't stand James and Kirk much any more. I feel that the only reason that they're trying to go back to their older style isn't because they truly want to, but because their looking for more $$$. You figure if they truly loved the heavy style, it wouldn't have taken them this long to come back.

I have not heard the new album yet, but I am a fan. I do agee that the Black Album was the peak of their career.

I haven't heard the new album but all bands that stay around long enough lose their edge.

Their stuff since Black has been wack, St.Anger coulda been with better production. But the new album is a great listen. Really cool stuff. Single isnt the best track. Their live show is gonna be pounding once again. Lars will always be a goof , but Yes, i am back to liking Metallica. :thumbsup

You're right. I was a huge Metallica fan up until their black album... after that, it all went to hell.

Now whenever I hear this new shit, I have to turn it off. It's terrible. Reminds me of music for a beer commercial.

You are forgetting that music exists "new" forever. Kids right now are hearing the original black sabbath album for the first time and havent even heard of metallica yet. So never fear.

Up until their black album....that was 20 years ago. It's amazing that fans are still holding out hope for another "And Justice For All" or "Ride the Lightning". I know they should be put out to pasture, like a lot of other bands who just keep going and going. Some evolve, some stay exactly the same, and some just suck.

Well, I got tickets for AC/DC in LA this fall... does that answer your question?

I'm not shallow enough to base if I like a band's new stuff based on how much I liked their old stuff.

I either like what I hear now, or I dont. But yes, I like thier new album. I didnt like the one before it.

Slayer still puts out music that rivals their old stuff in speed and intensity. Motley Crue's new stuff sounds like they didn't miss a beat from the "Girls Girls Girls" days. I personally haven't heard it yet, but I've been told the new Megadeth stuff is some of the heaviest stuff they've recorded. And AC/DC hasn't missed a beat either. There's plenty of bands that actually get a harder edge the longer they're around. Metallica just isn't one of them.

The latest Metallica is pretty damn good...maybe I have lowered expectations for them now, but aside from the unnecessary, emotion-less clunky instrumental, I dig the album overall and am finding it gets even better with repeated listens...and I've been one of the most adamant critics of Metallica the last 10-12 years...

A good band is a good band. I didn't heard all the album, but the songs that I listen to are very good.

the new album is pretty solid...i can't say much for the almost 20 years it took them to put out the last good one

they're trying to hard to be how they once were. still my all time favorite band and always will be.

Nah that was shot with my little cheap JVC HD cam the Audio ya hear is from the Mic built in the cam. SO the sound is kinda missing some timbre.

With the exception of 'Garage, Inc', Metalica pretty much ended for me after 'And Justice For All'. Justice is still one of my favorite albums for long freeway trips.

By their own admission, they took the sound more mainstream with the black album, honing down most of the sharp edges which made me like them to begin with.

Motorhead on the other hand keeps adding sharp edges :-)

I think the new album is garbage. Ever since they cut their hair its been really downhill.

I honestly can't sit through any of their songs anymore except for a few off of their oldest albums. :2 cents:
