Some fucker is using one of my domains for email spamming, all my sites removed...

What a fucking low-life cheap stunt.

Nice way to temporarily knock over your competition for a day or two.

How can you stop fuckers doing this? You can't.

I've been with this particular host for 3 years and without warning they just remove all my domains. You'd think I'd have their trust by now.

I can move all the domains easily, but what's stopping this punk doing it again? It's obviously a competitor deliberately trying to knock me out of the serps.

What a fucking Sunday. Asshole. :321GFY

papill0n 10-04-2008 11:30 PM

Uggg what a shitty thing to do man. Not only by the guy who did it but also by your host.

After Shock Media 10-04-2008 11:30 PM

Pick a host who will talk with you first before just pulling the trigger.

baddog 10-04-2008 11:30 PM

Your host removed your domains because someone was spoofing your email? They will be out of customers within a week.

sandman! 10-04-2008 11:31 PM

stop hosting with crappy hosts.

Redrob 10-04-2008 11:34 PM

If they are using your email as a return address for their spam, get the source IP#, report them for identity theft and see if you can collect damages.

Good luck as they are usually somewhere in a remote part of Romania.....

d-null 10-04-2008 11:36 PM

who was your host?

Redrob 10-04-2008 11:40 PM

If they hacked your mail server, you need to limit who can send mail from your IPs, domains, users, and block the rest. Put a hardware firewall on it too!

stevo 10-04-2008 11:42 PM

That shit happens to me all the time... I'm tired of the thousands of "Undelivered Mail Returned to Sender" email that i receive from those spoofing my email accounts.

CunningStunt 10-04-2008 11:47 PM

I've never set up one email address on their server, that's the funny thing (if there is anything funny about this).

I know it's easy to spoof someone's email address, but for the fucking host to just ditch the domains, that's really fucked.

Sorry, torrets syndrome kicking in.

DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH EXTREME-HOSTING.NET / HOST-HQ.COM

CunningStunt 10-05-2008 12:41 AM

lmfao d-null, I needed that.

Transferred the best performing of 10 sites on that host away just now, 9 more to go.

Cruddy way to finish a previously chilled Sunday. :Oh crap

I usually avoid criticizing other hosts, but that was pretty unprofessional of them.

CunningStunt 10-05-2008 01:09 AM

Unprofessional is absolutely correct.

I signed up with them and another 4 hosts for a project 3 years ago, and this is the first problem I've had with them. To pull the plug on sites just like that is unbelievable.

I'm going to find some software out there to send out 10 million emails for "hosting services" with [email protected] as the reply address, see how they like it :1orglaugh

tiptop 10-05-2008 01:23 AM

did you had Joomla or Wordpress running ?
do you have dedicated IP with your host?

All hand written sites.

Virtual hosting - had a quick project to set up and just went that route.

Good job I recently moved my critical sites to a dedicated server. $240 per month seems like a bargain to not have to put up with this kind of shite.

Jens Van Assterdam 10-05-2008 01:35 AM

Sucks to hear that :(

Pleasurepays 10-05-2008 07:18 AM

<note>note to self.... never use shitty hosting companies and expect top notch treatment and professional conduct like a fucking moron</note>

Antonio 10-05-2008 08:40 AM

it's your host that fucked you up, it takes them 2 seconds to realize that it's not you sending the mails but rather some guy using forged headers, so why did they suspend your domains then?????

BlackCrayon 10-05-2008 08:47 AM

I'm amazed that hosts do this. Its just way too easy for domains to be spoofed. They are stupid and should compensate you.

After threatening them with legal action, my sites are up. I moved a couple of the important ones last night regardless.

I've asked them to send me copies of the emails too so I can track this asshole down.

Yes, I've learnt my lesson with shitty hosts. The trouble is, spreading IP addresses across your network, it's way too expensive to go dedicated hosting on the lot. :Oh crap

Easier than you think.

CunningStunt 10-05-2008 02:10 PM

I'm not convinced that having different C class IP's is enough these days baddog. I could be wrong. Having 300 sites on 15 different hosts guarantees me totally different IP addresses.

xmas13 10-05-2008 02:15 PM

Fuck them.

Our plans include using different datacenters, so you can get different A's and B's as well. And all IP's are dedicated.

Much more convenient than 15 hosts and you don't have to worry about issues like the one you are dealing with now.

CunningStunt 10-05-2008 02:28 PM

Cool, thanks baddog. I'll hit you up next time I need some hosting.

Find out who it is and sue him as well as out him here and try to bring federal chaarges against him for fraud, etc.

sortie 10-05-2008 04:05 PM

Seems like the host could have checked your sendmail logs to see that there was
no spam going out.

Manowar 10-05-2008 04:06 PM

I dont think any hosts would can you for being jojobbed

WTF my host would never pull some bs like that.

Mark

brandonstills 10-05-2008 09:11 PM

There's something that you can add to your zone file that is supposed to authenticate your emails as being the actual sending. It lets other hosts know if the emails they are getting are actually from the source. I forget what the record was called (not MX).

TeenCat 10-06-2008 05:06 AM

one of my hosting is dreamhost and i am receiving emails from my personal addy, and i am selling to myself swatches and pills and similar crap daily. its really that easy to spoof and use someones email addy? if yes it looks like nice security bug

its a fake spoof that is easily done but any host who woould look at message headers can tell it isnt sent from the domain at hand....

Unless off course the person got into the server and used the actuall domain in question to send emails then in this case email are coming from domain in question due to person hackin gthe box

the orginal way is just to spoof email "FROM" like [email protected] so to naked eye it look slike its from the domain

Host should look into it first rather than pulling plug

TeenCat 10-06-2008 09:33 AM

thank you for reply always happy to learn something new :)
