what's with Mats Sundin?

the NHL season opened today in Europe and the big Swede dropped the puck at one of the games. he never announced his retirement did he? is his plan to sign with a team at mid-season?

the Shemp 10-04-2008 02:12 PM

last we heard he wasnt sure if he wanted to play or retire...

GTS Mark 10-04-2008 02:15 PM

He's keeping us all in the dark that is for sure... We are doing fine without him and have alot more salary cap to sign new young talent so I am happy.

Pics Traffic 10-04-2008 02:17 PM

He was tired of losing.

he had a chance to sign with any team he wanted to - the Rangers and Canadians are winning teams and offered him deals - Philadelphia too i believe.

my guess is after the New Year he'll sign with a contender - i just think he needed a long break and didn't want to go through training camp and the early months of the season that nobody cares about other than hardcore fans.

The Duck 10-04-2008 02:48 PM

He has not yet decided according to Swedish news.

Dude, with all the respect, if you think the Leafs will do fine with or without him this year, I'm really sorry to bust your bubble. We've been through this: reconstruction is 5 years of absolute misery...

But then again, Leafs fans are used to that ( sarcasm) LOL

Chauncy 10-04-2008 07:41 PM

I hope he is not done and I sure would love to see him sign a one year deal for the wings so I can see him hoist the cup.

d-null 10-05-2008 12:13 AM

how old is he now?

VeriSexy 10-05-2008 12:34 AM

He is like 37 years old

Odie 10-05-2008 10:49 AM

according to my sources, he's taking a break and will be back after the new year. He's settled here in TO and doesn't really want to uproot and move. Retirement is not outruled. :)

I love my Mats!

CherryV 10-05-2008 11:50 AM

Vancouver has also offered him $10million a year to play.

He has also signed with Poker Stars to play for poker for them

LOL! OK OK we were doing ok the first 2 games without him... :1orglaugh

WebairGerard 10-05-2008 07:17 PM

hard to believe he doesn't retire yet doesn't sign anywhere either. he has some good years left in him.

Mutt 10-23-2008 02:50 AM

he's baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack - knew he would be - just wanted a long summer and to avoid training camp and useless games.

he had a physical in Toronto and is off to LA to get into shape and then talk to teams.

Odie 12-17-2008 03:55 PM

update...he's back home and will be announcing his new team in the new year...see?? I was right!

TheStout 12-17-2008 04:04 PM

Source please?

I heard he was making his decision this week.

Chauncy 12-17-2008 04:09 PM

I will go back to my previous statement see above ^

and would like to ad also how much joy it would be to see the pain in the eyes of the leafs fans if they had to watch their captain hoist the cup wearing the winged wheel

TheStout 12-18-2008 10:51 AM

Suppose to be before Christmas. I wonder what will happen when he comes back to play in Toronto. I would personally never boo him but I am assuming some idiots will.

Signed with the Canucks. Big MEH to that as they still won't win the Cup.

sound familiar? :winkwink:

The Duck 12-18-2008 05:42 PM

I have nothing to report from inside of Sweden.

Mutt 12-18-2008 05:45 PM

he signed with Vancouver today - surprised me - but with the Canucks having a good year and able to pay him more money than NY that made his decision easier.

Odie 12-18-2008 05:49 PM

holy crap...this is a huge shocker...

Spunky 12-18-2008 06:03 PM

why? Sundin had a very good season last year and with the rest time he's had he should have a lot of gas in the tank. seems like a big addition to the Canucks to me.

I didn't follow his stats but I feel he is way over rated, old and not worth 10 large.

starpimps 12-18-2008 06:33 PM

lol fuck sundin and the canucks
10 million..give me a break, 5 would be pushin it

oilers 4 life yo

TheStout 12-19-2008 09:11 AM

Sundin is the best player any team will add to its roster during this season. FACT. He is a very skilled played and has put up point per game numbers playing with absolute shit for the last 6 years. Any team is lucky to have him. I just dont think the Canucks have the skill to knock off teams like Detroit and San Jose. :2 cents:

ahoy 12-19-2008 09:34 AM

Last I heard the Yankees were going to pick him up for a couple hundred mill?

WarChild 12-19-2008 09:58 AM

No better place to kill off your career than go to Vancouver. At least he'll really be done after.

San Jose I agree with you, Detroit has weak goaltending this year so they can be had. All depends on the nucks staying healthy and Louie coming back. Never know if that injury will linger on all year though.

I agree they can be had but when they are shutting out San Jose 6 - 0 with Conklin in Net you know they are a solid team. Who knows if they make a move for a goalie as well. Canucks have little chance of winning the cup with Luongo and Sundin fully healthy. Just my opinion. They improved yes but I think Mats search for a Cup will end without one.

tranza 12-19-2008 11:28 AM

Everybody gets tired of losing

Martin 12-19-2008 11:37 AM

I wish him all the best, but Vancouver isn't winning the cup this year.

Chauncy 12-19-2008 12:16 PM

Detroit doesn't have weak goaltending they are just on cruise control I mean Osgood has two cups already and is coming off the best season of his career they are the most talented, best coached, classiest team in the league. They will be the #1 seed in the west the path to the cup will go through Detroit.
