LCD or PLASMA
Hello
I finally decided to get rid of my old Trinitron 21" CTR tv in my office and bought a LG 42" Plasma... I wanted a LCD from the beginning NOT a Plasma... Now I'm not that sure I made the good choice. My first pick was a 40" Samsung LCD and for few bucks more there was a 42" LG Plasma.. Did I made the good choice? I heard that Plasma last way less and are more hard on the power bill. I don't really care about technical things like ghost image and stuff.. It's just to have Discovery Channel/CNN running while I work... Not a Principal Home Theatre TV, Just an Office TV that I want to put in the wall... Suggestions : Keep it or go back and get the 40" LCD ? txs forward :thumbsup |
anyone who says a lcd is better is full of shit
plasma all the way (unless you are buying a low end plasma) |
I prefer plasma
ok they take 400 Watts a 42 inch but the colors are a lot better imho esp on HDTV |
Personally i prefer LCD....... the colour is more crisp, sharp. They will improve over time.
Plasma consumes a lot more energy too. |
LCD TV's are are more reliable - if one of the bulbs go out, you can easily replace it. If a bulb goes out on a plasma, its finito :2 cents:
|
plasma gives a better picture quality for sure...
|
I heard anything over 52" go plasma anything less go LCD.
|
plasma gives a better picture quality for sure...
|
i actually prefer the LCD....
I don't like the way the picture on a plasma looks... :( |
Plasma's have a burn factor from images that don't change frequently, I don't like that.

I love my LCD TVs great color and low power drain:thumbsup

If you don't play video games, I guess you will be ok with your plasma but so far seems that the the lcd is more reliable

Hey Michael,
Great question. I've had a Samsung 42 inch plasma TV for about 2 years now. Pros of plasma TV: incredibly crisp and sharp colors and images, way better than LCD for sure. Cons: don't write off the ghosting effect. It sucks sometimes, though it never lasts long. After 2 years, I wouldn't change for anything else. So, here is my advice to you: if you intend to only watch TV and movies, plasma is by far the best choice. If you intend to plug in your computer and use your plasma as a monitor, stay away. Still images will ghost on the TV and you'll be anoyed at watching the file, edit, view menus, etc while you're watching your favorite movie or TV show. Also, my TV is turned on pretty much all the time when I'm home, which basically means several hours a day on average. After 2 years, 0 burnt pixels, no fade, no nothing... just perfectly crisp and sharp images! My 1 cent... ;) |
I know walking through a couple of electronic stores, it was clear to me that the LCD tvs seemed to have a more crisp, bright picture, that's why I went LCD.
|
Michael you should go with LCD.... Sharp AQUOS
|
Also, Now with LCD TV's a couple of different brands are offering the 120 refresh speed tv's which pretty much eliminate the motion blur. LG LCD Opus 120 is a really nice tv!

Plasma for shore

There are plasma screens better than lcd screens and vice versa. It depends on your budget.
|
I don't like the way plasma looks when there is a lot of light in the room, so unless you are always watching in low light...
and also, when it goes, it's GONE. You can replace stuff on the LCD, but not plasma Personally I'm an LCD guy. . |
Ok I finally returned it back and changed it for a 42" LCD...
Since I'm watching CNN a lot, then I guess the "static" stuff at the bottom of their screen would have "burnt" it a bit... As I said this is not my primary TV... Our primary one is a 46" Samsung LCD in the bedroom and we love it! Thank you all for the sound advices... From what I understand, this topic will always be 50/50 depending on who you ask... A bit like the Beta/VHS debate in the old days :) |
