firefox vs flash files (especially youtube)

Does this happen to anyone else? How do you fix it?

When I start up and open FireFox, I can usually play videos without a problem. But every once in a while, the player freezes just a few seconds into a video. I can move the slider, and it'll play for another second and then freeze. Then no matter which flash embedded videos I try they always freeze. And they never play audio after that as well. Even though the video will play for a second or less, there is no audio.

This ever happen to anyone else on FF?

NoWhErE 10-02-2008 09:46 PM

happens to me all the time.

budz 10-02-2008 09:47 PM

yepp happens to me also, just restart FF, should be ok.

KillerK 10-02-2008 10:10 PM

happens all the time, never with ie though

RedShoe 10-02-2008 10:42 PM

aside from "use IE" or the fact this doesn't happen Dean Mutha Fuckin Capture, anyone got any actual FF solutions?

dav3 10-02-2008 11:32 PM

it seems to mostly happen when there are a bunch of tabs open. but yea, just restart FF and it should work again.

CunningStunt 10-03-2008 02:49 AM

I gave up trying to fix it. Can't isolate the issue, have enough ram, interweb connection is fast....I blame shitty players.

Jens Van Assterdam 10-03-2008 02:55 AM

Same problem on the MacBook with the latest FF :(

budz 10-03-2008 07:27 AM

yeah.. seems to only happen with 10+ tabs open

candyflip 10-03-2008 07:37 AM

Only fix I have found for this is upgrading to Flash Player 10 beta, but even that on some machines it hasn't worked. I did manage to get this to work on FF for both OSX and Vista.

stephane76 10-03-2008 07:58 AM

Happens often on FF and Chrome
That's why i use IE on back up

Well.. shit. I'm lik a 20+ tab user. :Oh crap

u-Bob 10-03-2008 12:38 PM

same problem here when I've got tons of tabs open. (I'm the kind of guy who closes FF once every 3 months and keeps 100+ tabs open)

Yngwie 10-03-2008 12:42 PM

I experience the same problem all of the time. I love firefox, but that problem gets annoying.

Ayla_SquareTurtle 10-03-2008 12:52 PM

I've been having problems with this on and off for a while now. I've searched countless forums and as far as I can tell, there is no certain fix yet after many months of problems. You can try upgrading or downgrading your Flash, but for most people, the problem eventually returns. I'm not certain, but everything I've read suggests it's a problem on the Flash Player end and not something the FF people can fix from their end.

agentspits 10-03-2008 01:02 PM

yup, happens to me all the time, and likes others said, it usually happens when I start having a lot of tabs open, or when I go to a certain blog site that has a lot of embedded flash videos ready to click.

restarting firefox of course makes it go away...temporarily, but it's such an annoyance to do that

I've searched before and couldnt find any fix for this, hopefully they fix it soon though, I hate having to open IE just to watch a damn youtube video

SBJ 10-03-2008 01:06 PM

yup happens to me too. I normally just use IE for vids cause i never have less than 10+ tabs open and I'm not going to restart ff just to watch a joke or other type of video

HomerSimpson 10-03-2008 01:57 PM

same here...
I use Chrome for YouTube and it works fine :)

PAR 10-03-2008 02:06 PM

same here
FF
Chrome
Opera

IE is the only one it works 100% right now..

Ethersync 10-03-2008 02:37 PM

Happens daily to me with FireFox.

Yep, me too. Never had a problem with flash videos in Chrome.

sortie 10-03-2008 02:44 PM

When I complained about coding a flv player to always work in FF seemed like
everyone thought I was nuts.

But you are feeling what I was talking about.

xxweekxx 10-03-2008 02:45 PM

happens here.. i use ie for videos now

Ron Bennett 10-03-2008 02:51 PM

Increase the cache size in FF to something like 250 MB (or even larger if often playing very long flash videos). If the cache is already at least that large, then clear the cache, restart FF, and retry.

Ron

Serge Litehead 10-03-2008 02:57 PM

i think it's a problem with flash plugin which is being used by chrome, ff and some other browsers, ie on another hand uses flash active-x component. other than restarting browser there's no fix yet :-/

JamesK 10-03-2008 03:01 PM

I blame Clinton

SCORE Ralph 10-03-2008 03:12 PM

Fuck FF. FF is so '04.

dav3 10-03-2008 04:42 PM

I blame those damn mavericks, always fighting the browser power!

I know, right!! It's like I just catch myself wanting to see some guy get kicked in the nuts, or some hick riding and crashing in some crazy motorized invention. I never use it to learn anything. (except how to avoid getting kicked in the nuts, or that helmets are really only used to protect your face in the event of an open casket funeral)
