Yeah, it's a Kevin Smith film. He was supposed to do a horror flick as his next movie, and when brainstorming ideas, the title "Zack and Miri Make a Porno" popped into his head. Without a script, or even a treatment, the Weinstein Company threw a shitload of money at him to make the porno movie first, based simply on the title.

Sex sells....and is funny as hell.
