Bought a site, he wont trasfer domain, anyway?

Hey guys, I'm in a VERY shitty situation

1. I bought a 25k/day cj site about 2 years ago
2. I paid twice for the domain transfer, the owner always said he couldnt figure it out how to allow the trasnfer
3. Now i'm changing hosts, and I cant change the DNS for that site

anyone know if there is any other alternative way to get the DNS for that site changed to my new hosts DNS?

If not then this site will go down as my hosting will eventually remove my hosting/account :Oh crap :Oh crap

Oh, and the guy I bought the site from, he will not reply, he's disappeared 100% :disgust

KillerK 10-02-2008 01:08 AM

wow, you are owned hardcore

Ecchi22 10-02-2008 01:11 AM

Damn.. That's fucked up. You should find him somehow sooner or later anyway..

Don't know if it is possible now, but you could use service like afraid.org before and with just one change by his side, you'd be able to change your dns really quickly from your afraid.org panel..

I'm not an expert in this, but if you find him, do that..

Other tip I have is to contact the register to domain, by the rules of most domain registars out there, the person should give valid information on the way they could contact him, so he needs to be reachable. They wont share the contact but it might help if you explain them whats going on :)

yo jscott, the only thing i can recommend is speak with your current host and see if they can do a dns forward to your new host. It may cost a small amount per year, but its better than losing the site.

Just setup the domain on your new host and get the IP to your current host and see what the yearly charge would be.

Not the best solution in the world, but it keeps your traffic rolling.

Just fake a written transfer.

WiredGuy 10-02-2008 01:21 AM

What BigD said...

kmanrox 10-02-2008 01:24 AM

yep. bigD's on the case.

jscott 10-02-2008 01:31 AM

Even the host it's on has quit most contact with me, that is a whole different story hehe :disgust

Thanks for your suggestions, especially you BigD :)

rowan 10-02-2008 01:37 AM

Is there some sort of ICANN dispute resolution process you can go through? If you have proof of the sale (eg emails discussing pricing, receipts for the payment/transfer) and the original seller stays quiet then there may be a chance. I don't know any specifics but it's probably worth looking into, better than just losing your domain... :2 cents:

JamesK 10-02-2008 02:08 AM

You're fucked man. I mean, you could try and do what BigD says to reduce the damage, but in the end the domain is still in his hands and he can do whatever he wants with it.

Use Escrow next time.

baddog 10-02-2008 02:10 AM

his = Directnic, and mine that i requested the transfers from = Godaddy

Bojangles 10-02-2008 02:17 AM

Good luck, man. I fucking hate being in situations like this. Believe me, I've been in some really shitty (similar) situations. I've lost domains and sites before because of shit similar to this. I know what it feels like, and it's not good at all. Start contacting registrars and shit like that while you can. Contact your hosting as well. Big_D had some ideas, I'd try to work with some of those. I hope you get something figured out. Once again, good luck.

TeenCat 10-02-2008 02:39 AM

nothing stupid in here, so ... if you are getting 25k/day from se, just make backup of the database, start it again at new domain with new logo and the visitors will find the informations again in some time ... i told that there was nothing stupid here, till now :) wish you luck

dready 10-02-2008 07:53 AM

Good news. It would have sucked for you to have lost that.

NickRac 10-02-2008 08:06 AM

I understand all worked out but...you let him keep your domain for 2 years w/o filing a charge back?
