Is It Wrong To Be A Black Person?

when i was in the 10th grade, they had just made Martin Luther Kings birthday a holiday a couple years before. When this day came my friend, in the true spirit of celebration and remembrance went to school with his face and arms painted black.

The teachers, vice principal, principal and even the school board thought it was the most offensive thing they had ever seen, demanded an apology to the school/students and parents and also suspended him.

was he wrong?

Brown Bear 11-01-2002 06:32 AM

I think that should be allowed. It's freedom of expression/freedom of speech.

If he wants to put paint on his body, why should that not be allowed?

Enchantress 11-01-2002 09:48 AM

Even though I think it was kind of a weird thing to do, they were pretty harsh with him if his intentions were good. People are just so touchy about race. I'm always amazed at what sets people off.

Fletch XXX 11-01-2002 09:50 AM

Have heard too many stories to realize theres more to this.

C'mon, was he 'acting black too'

?

I bet he was acting like an idiot mocking black etc... and thats why, right?

Hes a fucking idiot anyway.

Whats he doing now?

I bet something great.

hahahah

cat 11-01-2002 09:51 AM

i think his intentions were good

but offcourse it is a weird thing to do

Theo 11-01-2002 09:54 AM

what did you expect from teachers?

I killed mine

Brujah 11-01-2002 10:11 AM

Maybe the schoolboard's message was that white people shouldn't celebrate MLK's day. Massivcock could probably shed some light into this conspiracy.

Really, I couldn't agree more. It's like people just out there looking for any excuse to go ballistic on someone at the drop of a hat. I'm thinking of writing a book titled "People are stupid", and if I do I'll include a chapter on this type of racial shit.

At the University of Mississippi, a whole fraternity got kicked off campus for 1 year because at a party, someone came dressed with black paint on them pretending to be a black person.

Another pattern I notice is that when there's a new TV network trying to establish an audience base they pack their series programs with black shows. Once they get a large ratings base, they dump all the black shows and focus on mainstream. Happened with Fox, then UPN, then WB.

I think this is myopic and sad, there's HUGE money in niche/demographic programming and the African American market is $.

Yeah Lets not forget the White Trash demographic, which is fantastically huge. Eminem isn't going platinum based on sales to the Black demographic thats for certain.....

Amanda Lewis 11-01-2002 02:38 PM

I had some guy at my college do the same thing, but it was for something they were performing on stage, like a show representing different people, and he happened to act like Charles Barkley for a NIke commercial.

The problem was that soo many black people took affense to it, so even though he may have had other intentions, some people are sensitive to that stuff, and take affense to it very easy. So, he probably shouldn't have done it.

i was thinking exactly that the other day too.

i was always watching standup on the Comedy Channel and HBO Comedy Channel at night and i just stopped and realized that there were no funny white comedians. There are some that are ok, but if i try to think of comedians off the top of my head that i like, i can only think of black guys. The hardest i laughed at any comedian was watching Chris Rock a few weeks ago. I never liked his show and his roles in movies tend to be hit and miss... but i thought his standup act was funnier than hell.

Fletch XXX 11-01-2002 02:42 PM

" Does your daddy know you give a migga his coffee? It would kill him woulsnt it?"

Black comedians rule.

Fucking Steve martin compared to martin Lawrence.

Chris Rock to Red Skelton.

hehehe

Your friend would be shot in a New York city public school.

Bobo 11-01-2002 02:55 PM

Why do people think it's ok to make distinctions like 'Black comedians are funnier than white comedians' meanwhile claim that we're all equal. That's like saying 'Blacks are better basketball players'. Well ok then, whites are better businessmen. I may not have made my point clear. You let me know. Do you see what I'm getting at?

Oh yeah, and painting oneself black and then acting like a cock should get your ass kicked out of school.

That would be one ugly show to watch. Damn, see I just fell into my own trap. Is it ok to make these kinds of judgements?

i think it is a little naive to say "all people are created equal" because they are clearly not. I am not trying to make a racist statement - just pointing out that physiologically people are adapted to their evironments, climates etc. if that were not true then all people would be identical physiologically and of course, genetically.

unless you want to argue that the average Japanese person is no different than the average Kenyan - then you cannot possibly argue that all people are "equal"... meaning the utopianistic sense of the word meaning we are all of equal intelligence, physiology and mental ability.

if you cant support the arguement that the average Japanese is no different than the average Kenyan... then why is it wrong to assume that it may be possible due to a number of factors that the average Kenyan might be a better runner? if that may be true... then why is it wrong to assume that one may be more likely to be a better dancer, a better rapper or a better electronic engineer building robots the size of pin heads?

i dont think it is a racist statement to say that on the whole black people in the US may be better dancers than Caucasions. you can look at most sports and there seems to be a disproportionate number of blacks to whites. excluding cultural influences/factors (i.e. more whites tend to gravitate towards hockey than blacks) then there would be equal representation of all races in any sport.

all i know is that when i bet on boxing... i NEVER bet on the white guy.
:winkwink:

No, I don't see what you're getting at. Reason being, nobody with any sense says "all people are created equal".

There are two kinds of people that make that statement:
1) Those that can't explain why they're failures.
2) Politicians looking for the votes of those failures.

Which one are you?

I don't think you understood me. I didn't say we're all created equal. I was making the point that people who do say this and then make distinctions between people are somewhat hypocritical, are they not?

But with respect to your choices, neither of them make any sense.

No, I understood you. I just don't know many of those people. But yes, they are hypocritical. But who isn't?

Your friend must be as DUMB as a post. I think a person of average intelligence would have known that this would not sit well with a lot of people.

Should there be a law against it? No. Should the school administrators have done someting? Yes. Students are children, not adults, and need a little feedback on what society at large things goes and does not. Once they are adults, that is when they will have full 1st Amendment rights.

Unseenworld, I may not agree with all your positions, but I'm glad you're on this board. Your posts are intelligent and well argued. :thumbsup
