This is just an example of a bigger movement. People seem to be getting more and more callous in general. Giving a shit about what happens to other people, or the rest of the world, is actually unfashionable.

What the hell is wrong with people these days?

People are generally ignorant about suicide and an amazing amount think (wrongly) that if you are truly suicidal, you just do it, no cry for help, no pause. A great many suicidal people look for help, or some sign that people care about them, even strangers, before they commit the act.

Saw a lady jump 16 stories and land more or less face down. She still had her purse in her hands with a note inside. Note had her correct address because her DL did not. Said to call her parents etc..

The police were not called until after she jumped.

I hope the people that were making the callous remarks have nightmares for the rest of their lives for contributing to the situation. Its very possible that the kid was going to jump regardless but I am sure any taunting that may have happened didn't help.

I had a cousin that was arrested for something similiar. At a casino in Atlantic City there was a guy on the marina side at one of the casinos threatening to jump. My jackass cousin decided to jump in his boat with a megaphone and go to the marina. He lasted about 10 minutes yelling through the megaphone at the guy to jump before he was hauled out of his boat, which was impounded. and arrested on a slew of charges. They charged him with everything that they could and he deserved every bit of it.

You've summed up the idiotic line of reasoning many people follow quite well.

Self-absorbed dimwits that they are, they can't fathom the thought that some people are actually in a worse state than they are. Instead of trying to help out where they can simply because it's the right thing to do, they intentionally try to hurt others in a sickeningly misguided attempt to feel better about their own lives.

They're the same kind of people who will not help out when they witness a serious accident, because they value their own peace of mind over the lives of others.

Morbid people out there. I am with a fellow GFYer here I would have been knocking someone in the mouth if I heard them yell for the kid to jump. I would ask what is wrong with some people but I already know the answer to that...they are just plain stupid or fucked up.

Don't know who should hate more, the suicide guy or commentators..

Anyway, love more so you can hate less. "That's my secret" :)
