President Clinton Admits Democrats Caused Mortage Mess

A new minute-long McCain commercial features the former president asserting that congressional Democrats could have done more to regulate the nation's major mortgage financiers.

In a clip taken from a Sept. 25 interview on ABC's "Good Morning America," Clinton says: "I think the responsibility that the Democrats have may rest more in resisting any efforts by Republicans in the Congress, or by me when I was president, to put some standards and tighten up a little on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac."

Snake Doctor 09-30-2008 09:17 PM

So because Clinton admits that they could have fought harder against what the republicans did, then what the republicans did is the democrat's fault?

Interesting logic there.

pocketkangaroo 09-30-2008 09:17 PM

Yes it is all their fault. They were in complete and total power over the years and had the ability to stop this. Damn you Democrats.

"Everyone has the right to buy a house"

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 09-30-2008 09:26 PM

LOL, Ya think the McCain Ad's have any truth to them at this point?

How they read that it's Democrats fault in that statement? LOL? McCain's team is quite the spin machine.

Everyone knows it was the Repub's that deregulated the financial industry...

seeric 09-30-2008 10:51 PM

it doesnt matter. palin can keep an eye on putin from her house. so its all good.

spunkmaster 09-30-2008 11:51 PM

If you watch the video Clinton says the Dems in Congress blocked his requests to
rein in Fannie/Freddie as well as Bush's requests.

Exactly.

Especially considering it was a REPUBLICAN CONTROLLED CONGRESS for most of his tenure.

Yup, he's stated numerous times that a bill he signed is the biggest part of what started this whole thing.

..... If you look into it. That bill was a republican bill, voted in by a republican congress. All Clinton did was sign it. People are too stupid to understand this though, they get one little piece of info and run with it like they know everything.

Barefootsies 10-01-2008 12:25 AM

Quoted, nice and simple sentences for the dunce caps.

It's ok, Bush is trying to fix it. Bush has this great Bail Out bill and wants you to sign it. McCain wants you to sign it too. How come no one is getting this thing passed? Don't you trust Bush or McCain?

Brujah 10-01-2008 04:48 AM

slavdogg 10-01-2008 05:09 AM

Are you taking the responsibility away from those who vote? Is it the author of the bills or those who vote it in or out?

If Bush and McCain want us to pass the bail out, why shouldn't we? Are they wrong?

slavdogg 10-01-2008 05:13 AM

this is not a blame game
this is about simply admitting that Dems were on the wrong side of this failed policy.

i dont agree with the bailout. its all bullshit even if the Gov makes a huge profit.

I think they should give $20k each to every American instead.
It would do amazing shit to US economy and banks would still get a huge cash infusion benefit out of it.

Brujah 10-01-2008 05:17 AM

How does the average joe know what to do or who to vote for if Bush and McCain want the bail out passed, but then people are saying to vote against the congress reps who voted for the bail out. Why vote against them, but not against McCain?

Quagmire 10-01-2008 05:50 AM

When are you people going to stop and realize that both parties are loaded full of crooked bastards who don't give a shit about serving the greater good, but trying to line their own pockets?

They are two cheeks of the same ass my friends...

Try reading the quote again. It must be hard going through life without basic reading comprehensions skills.

Clinton says truthfully that the Democrats blocked Republican efforts to tighten up lending standards on Fannie and Freddie. This remains true now matter how many times the left tries to distort the truth or rewrite history. Even Clinton acknowledges this.

Refeshing to see a politician takes responsibility for something - anything at all - even if just partially. Wish there were more like him.

You should listen to the whole statement... he said they had a hand in it but many people are to blame.

Interesting logic there.

Not what the Republicans did, it's what they were unable to do because the Dems stopped it. :2 cents:

There is no doubt that there is plenty if blame to go around but tell that to Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats who are trying to paint this as a Republican mess when the reality is that Democrats are waist deep in it.

brassmonkey 10-01-2008 09:06 AM

man drink your moonshine democrats didn't sign people up to buy houses the companies did. The people that got through had bad credit and so their percentage rate went up therefore their mortgage was almost doubled per month :)

pigman 10-01-2008 09:08 AM

Republicans have had the power for 8 years, how the fuck can you blaim the democrats.
By the way I checked the republicans website www.rnc.org and I saw Obama all over the place but no Mccain. Nice to see where their focus is.

All those people defaulting on their homes, and loans are democrats. Everyone knows the Republicans can afford to make their payments. You get an extra +200 to your FICO score btw, if you're a registered Republican voter.

MaDalton 10-01-2008 09:22 AM

all efforts by the european union to regulate the worldwide banking system and to gain more transparency has been blocked by the US government for nearly decade now. exactly what Bush, Paulson and Co. are now crying for :2 cents:

What legislation is it that you think you are talking about? Do you even know?
