Can the bracket holding it to a car windscreen be easily removed for use in another vehicle?

Yes it can. I move mine from car to car all the time. I even use it in my daily driver that has a factory DVD GPS which is junk compared to the Tom-Tom.

I have a TomTom 720 and I think it sucks. The maps are way outdated (I just updated them last month btw) and it gives retarded directions alot. I rarely use it anymore... I have TeleNav on my BlackBerry.

Yeah, we don't have any problems moving ours between the 2 cars...

I'm trying to decide on a tomtom or a nuvi.

I got a Garmin Nuvi but almost bought a Tom Tom until the guy at the shop said they tend to lose the satellite conection in parts of London due to the tall buildings, Have no idea how true this is but I have used my Garmin in London on many occasions and it is pretty good.

I prefer the Sony one.
CostCo has it right now for about 150 off.
