SEO dudes - question

I'm traveling into unknown (for me) territory in my adventures in SEO

I have a site that just recently got a major spike in goog traffic, but I can't figure out why. It was already #1 for it's keyword, PR hasn't changed (though I know that doesn't mean the PR hasn't changed). Don't notice any new incoming links aside from more goog. what could have happened? more pages indexed? more people searching that keyword? fluke? explain... i'd like to replicate this success if possible :upsidedow

you must be ranked high from some other keyword you didn't intend to rank for :) Today happened one big data push at google, but I am sure tomorrow or in few days it'll be back to normal, don't worry :D LOL

How do you know? You use Google Analytics? If so, go to Traffic Sources > Search Engines > Google and it will show the keywords. Is it a blog?

i use analytics and built in server stats. the number of searches for each keyword jumped up like 30-40 percent, but they have stayed relatively proportionate to before. it *seems* like more people are searching for it but i'm not sure how that would happen (haven't heard about any big news)

and yeah its a blog
