I want to start a freehost. Which software?

I am looking for a "freehost" script for one of my dedicated boxes.
I have never run a freehost and so I don't even know where to look.

(Yes, Goog. Not a lot of refined luck).

I have tried to find some online comparisons similar to this great resource for content management systems -> http://CMSMatrix.org but no luck.

Anyone have any good ideas about this?

It will never be a big freehost, but I want it to have features, ads and security against uploading garbage to my box.

Any advice will be appreciated!

Thank you,

YP

Freehosts?

You are about 8 years too late.

Aye, that ship has sailed long ago, but if you still want to do it, there are quite a few pre-built for cPanel, and one that I know of for Direct Admin. This place has a solution for both: http://www.ihostdev.com/ipanel.html I don't know how good it is, I haven't ran a freehost for... 4 or 5 years and the script I used is no longer available.

If you wanted a tight reign on things, you could simply create a form and collect the info and set the account manually (giving out subdomains or using customer provided domains).

Do you mean because you assume you know what I'm doing with it, and that's an adult web server and not niched mainstream?

Or do you mean that you didn't know that I have 100Mbps to help use up?

Believe me, My AdSense, custom searches, text links and banner ads will pay those bills :winkwink:

Thx,

YP

Yea, I had thought about creating manually and it would work fine except:

The thing is I'd have to give users a pre-configured WP install or something not too technical for the avg person, so that I can run my AdSense and custom searches.

I could code up a mod WP to use for that, and the users would still have control over content, for the most part.

Thanks,

YP

The only thing freehosts do in today's market is give pedophiles and thieves a place to store stuff... Even 2years ago right before we shutdown porncity as a freehost we would get calls and visits from the FBI weekly.

using Google ad sense on site with user uploaded/modifed content will just get your account closed. You really can't control all that users are doing there and that's the main problem...
