ignorant? about what? other than the graphics engine there's really nothing close to revolutionary about it. its gonna be nothing more then a big advertisement for the doom 3 engine.

doom was revolutionary, quake was as well, but this won't be. it will be cutting edge for graphics and sound, but thats about it. the direction id software has taken since quake hasn't been good.

This game will certainly fuck your system like UT2k3 does. If not I will be amazed.

I as well will be dedicating a new system to it most likely.. I've been holding off upgrading for quite a while.

As for revolutionary, hardly.. It's just gonna be a new, kick ass engine.. So, revolutionary in the engine sense, but the game will be same-old same-old.. But that's fine.. Just wait til the REAL games get made with that beauty of an engine. ;>

Cool that the engine is built from the ground up too. Ahh, id rocks. I remember when they sold wolfenstien to who, apogee?

Then they released DOOM, 3 days before apogee released a paltry wolfenstein expansion sequel. Sure blew everyone out of the water.

Same with Quake 1, it totally rocked everything else that was out.

I didn't care for q2/3 much (milking the same engine wasn't like id's old style of doing things) but i'm hoping the magic is still there for DOOM 3!

thats the problem for me, i like fast paced shooters like doom and quake. everything since then except for serious sam is slow. they just don't have the same intensity and edge of your seat action.

i was hoping doom 3 would get back to the same type of game the original doom was. but that was just being too optimistic.

The "Alpha" is the E3 Demo for those that attended E3.


The Demo was designed to run on a pretty state of the art machine, something like a 2.4 Ghz and an ATI Raedon 9700.

I just played through the leaked alpha and it was freakin incredible. From the way lights swing when you shoot them and the shadows they cast... to the creepy sounds and scripted sequences that seamlessly happen in-game.

The game is stunning - even in this semi Alpha state. Totally scarey with headphones and the lights off.

This was a great treat for Halloweeen :winkwink:

I know what you mean - serious sam is about the only fun newish single player FPS out there.. and thats because it's like doom in the frenetic action department.

How geek am I? We're building a mini-network gaming center in my new house so we can have massive frag fests. =]
