Yep McCain worked hard to get that debate changed. It was going to be a pretty informal town hall style debate where they took questions from the audience and talked to each other, but they got it changed so that the moderator will ask questions and they don't talk so she can just memorize a bunch of talking points.

I hope they ask them what makes them qualified to be VP. It will be funny to hear Biden talk about his experience in the senate and her talk about living next door to Russia and Canada.

Bama 09-29-2008 01:26 AM

You guys just hear the voice-overs on commercials without actually listening to them and then run off to by whatever product was being pitched because the sound of his voice tugged at your heart strings.

The product and the pitch are 2 different and separate things and one has nothing to do with the other.

I'm not too shocked. I spoke on the phone this weekend to my uncle who I only see a few times a year. We started talking about the election and he tells me he is voting for McCain. I ask him why and he says Obama is a terrorist. I tell him he isn't and he tells me that Obama isn't an American. When I explain that he is he tells me Obama is a Muslim. Try as I might I cannot convince him that Obama is not a Muslim.

I have another friend that won't vote for Obama because he is a "liberal". When I ask what is wrong with that he explains how his taxes will go up under Obama. When I explain that Obama's purposed tax cuts will actually do him more good than would McCain's he still says, "He just a liberal."

People vote for strange reasons and a lot of people hear something and accept it as the truth. That is how a lot of people get elected. They lie, the stick to it and they know if they repeat it enough people will start believe it as the truth and they won't find out on their own what the truth really is. My uncle works in construction and about 4 nights a week hangs out at the same bar he has gone to for 15 years so I'm sure either someone he works with or drinks with told him about Obama and he doesn't care to find out if it is true or not.

He's BLACK..all the other bullshit is covering up their REAL feelings

this is why the race is so close, but Obama stays ahead and I think the debate helps take him up a few more notches..All he needs is 1 point to win

With my uncle I don't think it is that he is black. My uncle is white, but he has dated several black women in his life (one of them for about 6 years) and several of his very close friends are black so I don't think he is afraid of him being black, I just think he heard some drunk guy at the bar tell him that he is a terrorist and he took it as gospel.

My mother is the same way! This is a college graduate, upper class 70 year old with over 20 years involvement in local politics. Yet her Southern Baptist minister has told her that Obama's a Muslim. She about blew a gasket when I told her I was either going to vote 3rd party or not vote at all because that was a vote for Obama and taken literally from her email "The Lord might be just enough fed up with us that He'll give us Obama!". How do you argue with that mindset??!! :helpme

From what I read the moderator is free to ask any question, so I would think they would not have the questions ahead of time.

As far as I know they do not know the questions they will be asked. I assume they have an idea what subjects may be touched on though. Since this is the only VP debate I would guess they would touch on a lot of different things.

Way to cherry pick one poll and the best you can do is gramps losing by 4.

People don't close these kinds of gaps in 1 month. Obama has a superior get out the vote organization, young people are under represented in almost all polls this year, white people are over represented in almost all polls this year, black people are under represented in almost all polls this year, Republicans are over represented in almost all polls this year, and on and on.

u shouldn't get too excited, old fart, here's more fresh polls for that ass

TIME 50%-43%
http://www.time.com/time/politics/ar...846065,00.html

Among the poll's most dramatic findings: McCain is losing female voters faster than Sarah Palin attracted them after the Republican National Convention. Obama leads McCain by 17 points with women, 55%-38%. Before the conventions, women preferred Obama by a margin of 10 points, 49%-39%. After McCain picked Palin as his running mate, the gap narrowed to a virtual tie, with Obama holding a 1-point margin, 48%-47%.

It's actually probably not that close. It's my understanding that most polling agencies conduct their phone surveys with 95% landline users. That would exclude the majority of college age voters (AKA Obama voters) who have cell phones as their only phone.

If that's true, Obama should take it by a landslide.

There are a lot of unintentional biases that work in favor of Obama this year. He will outperform many polls and their flawed methodology.

Well, if my uncle is racist he has done pretty good job of hiding it. I have never heard him say anything racist, but then again I am not around him all that much so maybe when I am around he is on his best behavior.

I am certain that there are a lot of people who will not vote for Obama because he is black. But I think to just throw everyone who doesn't like Obama for stupid reasons into that category is too easy. My uncle, more than likely, doesn't like Obama and won't vote for him because he thinks he is a Muslim terrorist. More than likely he thinks that because some drunk guy from the bar he hangs out at that he feels is smart and knowledgeable about politics told him so. My uncle is probably less of a racist than he is an idiot when it comes to these types of things.

They have been saying that for the last few elections and the polls still almost always turn out to be pretty damn spot on accurate. One of the reasons for that is that college age people without land lines tend to not vote. They talk a good game, then don't vote. Look at the last election. Kerry registered more first time voters than any candidate in history (Obama has or will top that number in this election though) and on election day most of them didn't vote. Bill Clinton was able to activate the far left and get the young people to the polls and he rode them to victory. If Obama can do that he wins. It is that simple. If he can't it will be much closer.

More young people voted than ever and it will be an even bigger record this year. Not only did more young people vote in 2004 their total numbers rivaled that of the over 65 age group. The over 65 age group is THE ONLY age group McCain is winning. I would wager on more young votes than over 65 this year, Obama wins by a mile.
