Can I manage my own 401k?
I don't want to pay 1% to some dumb bastards who never outperform the S&P to manage my shit. I would be much better off just buying spiders. My human resources department is rather annoyed that I'm trying to create extra work for them so they wont investigate. Is it possible?

I know a few of you have had jobs before....

You're asking us, GFY, if you can manage YOUR OWN 401K? If you're not smart enough to figure this out on your own, perhaps you're not the best one suited to manage your own 401K. :2 cents: ***ERIC*** I'd like to submit a name change, please change his/her name from Kard to Tard. Thanks. |

Some 401K firms allow fully self-directed plans, eg:
http://www.theonline401k.com/ They allow you to open up a Schwab PCRA account where you can buy/sell stock, bonds, options, mutual funds, ETF's just like at any other brokerage account. Obviously margin accounts are not allowed for 401k because you can't replenish if you lose more than your value, and there are similar options on naked shorts and selling naked options. |
Yes if your employer supports it
http://accounting.smartpros.com/x31218.xml otherwise you can switch over to a self directed IRA http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self-Directed_IRA |
