How long can you use one razor, a week, a month, how about a year?

How? By drying the blade after each use.

Has anybody here tried it?

good find, I'll give it a try this week. I can rarely make it past a week per blade.

My great grandfathers seemed to have lasted him over 70 years and it is still as sharp as hell sitting in my bathroom.

brandonstills 09-27-2008 05:17 PM

I usually use the same one for about 2 months. It used to be like once a week until I learned about drying it off as well. I used to keep it in the shower but now I dry it off on a towel each time I use it. Works great.

Rorschach 09-27-2008 05:33 PM

Great info! Will have to try it... The price of razors is sheer extortion.

mynameisjim 09-27-2008 05:45 PM

I use an electric now. But back when I used razors I would easily go a month or two. It gets a bit rough but if you let the shaving cream soak in for a bit, even a dull ass blade works.

Not sure when we became a disposable society or became willing to accept products that do not last and can not be repaired. Something went terribly wrong and we seemed to embrace it with open arms.

SilentKnight 09-27-2008 06:24 PM

Been usin' an electric razor for 30 years (not the same one, natch).

My current Braun has survived over a decade. Only replaced the foil 3x so far.

d-null 09-27-2008 06:27 PM

letting them air dry might be the culprit then

I noticed an opposite phenomena

I have been on the road alot lately and kept a disposable razor in a ziplock plastic bag with a bar of soap, water has been getting in it so it is basically a half a cup of soapy saturated water, with the razor immersed in it.... immersed in that soapy water the razor is still perfectly sharp and it has been a few weeks now

Sometimes I got to use two razors or three just to shave for one morning. I tried different razors and drying and everything, it stinks..............

Waiter 09-27-2008 06:33 PM

Sounds great ... I must try this :) thanks

My balls thank you for this article.

Weird. I thought this was common knowledge...

I have confirmed this theory many times over.... I am using one that's like 2 months old... an it all started out because I didn't like to see hair or water under the blades so I kept cleaning them after shaving and voila! still as sharp as evur!

Amen.

I like the way you think ASM. Usually spot on. :thumbsup

6 months, but I only need to shave once or twice a week, face hair grows slow on me.

JamesK 09-28-2008 05:08 AM

About 1 or 2 months. I sometimes let my beard grow though.

I use mine for ~month

VicMartin 09-28-2008 05:24 AM

I use Gillette M3 Power razors and they shave great, but I only get 2 comfortable shaves out of them and the 3rd is a bit bumpy and then I got razor burn... never tried 4 times. I also use the Neutrogena Razor Defense products before and after shaving and let me tell you... they make shaving fast, easy and painless. :)

Congrats, now I suppose what the article is trying to say is if you dry off your razor blade completely and then store it in a dry zip lock or another non humid room the blades should last even longer and perhaps you could get two to three times the number of shaves with them than you currently do.

But why would I? The gel strips on the plastic part of blade get worn off. Besides, my beard grows in thick and no ziplock bag or non humid environment can protect a blade from it. :)

I cant use a straight razor so I just keep it. I myself use an electric. Still on my first though and its been a good 2 decades plus.

Pornwolf 09-28-2008 01:46 PM

I use the Quattro Titanium blades. I shave my head with them so I'm using them more than just if I did a face shave. They last about a few weeks as long as I dry them.

Make sure you splash some alcohol on your blades before you dry the every other day. Bacteria builds up on blades just like anything else in the bathroom. Kill germs often.

Manowar 09-28-2008 01:53 PM

will have to try this one

yep... i've read that bacteria are the leading cause of irritation and stubble rash, rather than just a blunt blade.
