Paul Newman - maybe the last real movie star

Sad - even if he was 83 and led a great long life it's still such a loss. Fucking Reggie Dunlop is dead. And all the other memorable characters he played in some of the greatest movies ever made. He was a man's man - rare - a guy women wet their panties for and guys never said 'phhhht - what's so special about that fag?'

I met him by accident in the early 80's - I was working in the middle of nowhere for the summer - some locals came in and said Paul Newman was at a motor lodge not far away - I said 'you guys are high - Paul Newman the movie actor here?'. There was a race track in the area and they said him and his race team were there - sounded a bit plausible so me and some co-workers decided to go check it out - so we drove to this motor lodge and entered the little lounge/restaurant and hell - what do you know - there was Paul Newman drinking beers with his crew and locals. He was smaller than I thought he was and much thinner - and just ..... real..... he wasn't faking it, he was totally at ease and comfortable in that lounge hanging out with people who were as average as people can be, probably more comfortable than he was at a party filled with Hollywood stars. I got to talk to him a bit and got his autograph for my sister and mom and that was that.

there are no Paul Newman's today - you have retards and attention whores like Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt.

50 years with the same woman - NEVER a peep in any gossip tabloids about him cheating on his wife. When he could have any piece of tail he wanted.

Throw in the hundreds of millions that have gone to charity through his food company.

Rest in peace Mr Newman.

Very sad to hear about his death. You're right, I think the last of the class act actors are dieing off. We're stuck with the Lindsey Lohans now..

I've been buying his products for a long time. As a matter of fact, I've been feeding my dog his dry food mixed with a bit of his wet food for awhile now and his salad dressing and steak sauce are in my fridge. Made it big and gave back big too..

RIP Mr. Newman!

hmmm - Pacino and DeNiro are great actors - equal or greater than Newman BUT they hit their primie after the 'movie star' era was dead. Neither are traditional leading men either.

Costner is a lightweight.

He was great, a great actor and one who gave generously and selflessly to others without a second thought. RIP Paul Newman, a true legend if ever there was one!

I just read that he donated all profits from Newmans Own to charity... I didn't know that.

fuck getting old sucks - these were men that women worshipped when i was a kid - now they're old men and worse - dead

Paul Newman was the same age as my dad - seems like he was younger

Back when he was launching his popcorn, Newman was in negotiation with Cineplex/Odeon theatres here in Canada to get his popcorn in their theatres.

My mother was an executive assistant to the CEO at the time and liassoned with Newman quite a bit during the negotiations. She'd been a lifelong fan of his, and she still reminisces about the discussions she had with him at the time.

Think I'll toss 'Color of Money' in the dvd player tonite and kick back with a few pints in his honor.
