The Official Debate Poll..Who won and why?
Not to steal any thunder from Redshoe's other official thread but let's hear it..
|
i think obama won because he voted for research into the jurrassic period to find the rest of mccains family tree.

Ivy league every time.

I'm an Obama supporter but McCain held his own way better then expected. Obama did better on foreign policy and McCain somehow seemed to come out on top on the economy (not his actual positions but just how he came across in the debate). That's exactly the opposite of what everyone expected. :2 cents:
|
i was really hoping that obama was going to blow mccain out of the water....
he didnt... i think obama came across as more truthful and more in touch with the reality of the country's current financial and foreign relations state of affairs... |
I think Obama won not because he was brilliant, but because he was not supposed to win this debate. I guess a 'moral' victory is the way I see it if there is such as thing in politics. This was supposed to be McCain's strongest point and I think Obama held his own. I do think his 'I agree' remarks will hurt him by the spin doctors and it got a little annoying but the way I see it, McCain was supposed to win by a landslide and barely squeaked it out at best if at all.
If this was purely about foreign policy however, I think McCain would have done better because he was clearly in his comfort zone. And come to think of it, maybe that was a reason he wanted to postpone the debate because he didn't want to share the stage with other issues. |
Obama won, mccain kept talking about the past and Normandy. He also never mention anything about canceling the debate and grandstanding for no reason other than to show boat.
|
Oh I forgot to mention ... McCain is older than DIRT! ... Alaska was admitted to the union on January 3, 1959 as the 49th state. Hawaii followed the same year. McCain was born August 29, 1936.

McCain won .......... by not losing. People have long assumed that debates would be an edge for Obama. Obama wasn't as good as people expected and McCain not as bad as people expected - that's a victory for McCain. He was most effective when he talked foreign policy, and his hands on experience - having been in the mountains of Pakistan, having been in Afghanistan while Obama has never been, having looked Putin in the eyes, Vietnam, Kissinger - making Obama look like a naive and nerdy political science student talking about things i.e. stategy vs tactics that he really has no clue about.
i'm for Obama but it was a somewhat disappointing performance by him. He stammered a lot. He lost on Iraq when he seemed to agree with McCain that the US was now winning in Iraq. |
Tie. Neither really won, neither really lost. McCain got some better soundbytes, but Obama got some better points in general. Obama was supposed to massacre McCain in general, he didn't. This was supposed to be McCain's "issue", Obama did great. Obama looked more calm and collected, McCain had some decent gotchas.
|
This was a lackluster debate compared to what it was billed as.
McCain repeated his scripted sound bytes literally word for word that we've previously heard dozens of times from the campaign trail. He did not come to the debate with new material. McCain was boring, mostly on the defensive and at times went off track into irrelevancy. Obama played it safe. He is leading in the polls, so all he had to do was tread water and not be too dramatic. McCain was never able to push him into something that he didn't have an adequate response for. |

Obama was excellent.

I thought it was a tie.
I thought it was interesting how when Obama mentioned the "I believe the fundamentals of the economy are strong" comment it kind of got "poo pooed" and laughed off .. I thought that was going to be talked about more. Mccain mentioned Kennedy in the beginning +1 Obama didn't. Mccain loves our troops,Reagan,Veterans. Obama didn't have any tear jerking stories. Mccain cracked me up when he studdered Ahmadinejads name. Obama didn't make me laugh at all. Mccain quoted Bush again "We are safer, still not safe" but reworded it. Mccain is a Maverick so is Palin now I guess. Obama was way too nice. Mccains tie sucked. I'm calling PPV now to get my $$$ back. |
I think it was a tie. McCain was supposed to win this one, based upon the foreign affairs theme, so in a way you can say Obama gets the edge for NOT losing, but it was very tight.
I would like to be that alert at 72, but McCain is pretty creepy too. McCain kept saying Obama didn't know what he was talking about, even when that statement wasn't true, but on the flipside Obama kept saying McCain was right, and that he agreed with him, which also wasn't good for his side. McCain would not even LOOK at Obama the whole time, which was really weird, but again, I think McCain is another creepy weirdo, that we would learn to hate in no time. The idea that it was pretty much a tie probably won't change much - the McCain people will still vote for him, and the Obama people will still vote for him. The big difference, if this were the ONLY debate (which it isn't) would actually be the vice presidential selections at this time - Palin if McCain kicks the bucket from health issues - Biden if Obama is assasinated. Between those two I have to vote for Biden in a BIG way! I was going to vote for Obama before this debate, and nothing has changed for me... |

Obama won because McCain is a slimey, smug shit.... who is actually clueless.
He's one of those blokes you meet in the pub who thinks he knows everything and can actually bluff it with a certain flair and persuasion but deep down... no substance. That said, Americans are dumb enough to find that endearing and there stands your new president. |
