FUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK..... I hate hosting companies

Well, I got screwed again! My dedicated server has had a 2 day backup for the past year and I have been paying 25 dollars per month for the backups. I needed a site recovered last week and the hosting company told me "sorry we have made a mistake we never backed up any of your sites" we can refund your monthly backup fee for you, but please send us all the invoices!

WHAT SCUM COCK SUCKER pieces of SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::321GFY:32 1GFY:321GFY:321GFY:321GFY

what would you do in my place? Small claims or full on lawsuit???!

Eriic 09-26-2008 05:02 PM

I like dedicated Host, when I go out to eat they are very sweet. If she is not a dedicated Host then maybe she should get a different job.

MBS Auto 09-26-2008 05:02 PM

fuzebox 09-26-2008 05:02 PM

First things first I would name the company.

CunningStunt 09-26-2008 05:05 PM

What he said.

Easton 09-26-2008 05:29 PM

see? this is why we use NatNet... their service is unreal

but better than a backup (though we have that also for SQL tables and such), we have a redundant 6TB server setup with them, so we have 3TB usable and the other 3TB is instant redundant backup

FreeHugeMovies 09-26-2008 06:39 PM

When you go cheap you can expect shit like this to happen.

BVF 09-26-2008 06:46 PM

Name the host....what in the fuck is wrong with you?

You really won't be able to get anything by suing, the best thisng you can dio is name them so you can help your fellow webmasters, then MOVE to a real host.:2 cents::2 cents:

Rochard 09-26-2008 07:20 PM

I would host with National Net. Then you wo uldn't have this problem.

So you have it mirrored? I would also set up a regular backup solution as well... mirroring is good for drive failure, not accidental deletion, etc.

RAID is NOT a substitute for backups!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Make sure you understand this!
RAID does NOT substitute for backups, EVER! You have to have backups of your data all on their own.

So unless you have TWO separate machines each with the SAME content running independent of each other (IE: if the other is hacked and files compromised, it still doesnt affect the second), you could still be fucked.

So many people come to me saying "RAID-1 for backups, please". Don't make this mistake people, it could cost you your data!!

HorseShit 09-26-2008 07:33 PM

who the fuck is sudjam lol

Aside the fact that for 10.00 a month ( instead of the 25.00 the poster is paying ) , a second drive could have been installed/mounted for backups only ....

You don't need NatNet to not get fucked over like the OP did. There's plenty of other good host out there that are big who you probably can't find any dirt on.

xmas13 09-26-2008 07:56 PM

LOL. I thought sudjam was some crazy board speak I was not hip to :1orglaugh

cryptie 09-26-2008 10:30 PM

ouch, I dont know what would happen if that happened to me. I'm running a few sites with 60k+ registered members (not porn based) it would kill me to lose that data. we had one crash, but ended up losing 2 hours of data.

TidalWave 09-26-2008 11:00 PM

You guys who have critical data, need proper backups... I really recommend baremetal backups of your servers using something like R1Soft CDP (Continuous Data Protection)

http://www.r1soft.com/

We have it available as a managed service, hit me up if you want INFO. This is A++ for the best in data protection and backups.

Bojangles 09-26-2008 11:25 PM

Hosting companies always seem to fuck me over some how.

stonehammer 09-26-2008 11:41 PM

I sleep well every night knowing all my data is at Colo Cation. Been there over a year. No drama just reliable.

According to the recent posts natnet now holds the record for the longest network wide downtimes (8+ hrs in 1 month) of any other host that posts on this board.:2 cents::2 cents:

sicone 09-27-2008 03:36 AM

Nat Net rocks my socks. Had many hosting companies before this and will never have another. When I'm ready to expand again, Nat Net has my business without a second thought.
