My first pornstar site....!

Ok - so I am the early negotiation stages for doing a deal with a "local" pornstar, in my area. She is an exotic dancer in the area by trade - but has recently shot some content for Brazzers, Naughty America, Reality Kings & Mt. Big Dicks/Hot Chicks. She has also done the cover for most of the large breast magazines.

Anyway - I contacted her about doing an official site for her. She is definitely interested in using my help.

The question I have is - How much would she pay a top rated XXX designer like AtlasMultimedia? 40% and how involved should I try to get at first?

I want to put together a deal that's good for both of us - and hopefully we can create a good working relationship and help grow each other careers...!

I would ask 40%, maybe even 50. All she has got to do is making material. You have to promote, build and get the word out on the net. A good affiliate program is the key (obviously), but means hard work.

How much you get really depends on how much you will do. Will you design the website? Will you maintain it? Will you do the SEO for the website? Will you run the affiliate program and by that I mean not just managing it by adding things, etc. I mean actually going out and getting webmasters.

If you can say yes to all of these things then I don't think 50% is unreasonable at all. But keep in mind while you are doing all the website work she is the one who has to come up with the content and that in itself is a huge investment, so if you aren't doing your job with marketing can she really afford to shoot new, fresh content for the site? Both of you are really vital to the success of the other. If one of you drops the ball the other one can't really do their job all that well.

I tried this exact thing with a girl I knew. We were even friends before. Anyway, I had the traffic, affiliate program, website designers, etc...etc... etc. After a long drawn out experience with getting the site to her exact liking (I spent about $15,000 on her tour, member's area and promo material, I also spent about another $5,000 having an editor do her movies and trailers) she decided not to go through with it. I had a contract and everything with her. The split was suppose to be 50/50. In the end after taking her to small claims court to recoup my loses, the judge ruled in her favor, stating that she had the right to cancel the contract on grounds of immorality. It seemed at the last minute, she didn't know if she really wanted her hardcore sex scenes plastered all over the net for the world to see. The moral of all this is: You better know who your going into a partnership with and you better have her step up to the plate with some cash to prevent the same from happening to you.

You definitely want clearly state what your responsibilities will be and what hers will be. To help limit some of the costs should the model bail, I take a smaller percentage and have her take care of the hosting and all credit card processors. And we also share other expenses.

I also get a deposit for the initial development of the site. The balance is pro-rated over a predetermined amount of time based on the site's revenue (eventually she will actually own the site). Having the model put up cash and having her be responsible for some large expenses let's me know who's serious and who's not. It also gives the model more control over her site (yeah... risky, I know) and when the contract ends and should she not renew, she still has a site. I know this approach isn't the norm, but it works for me.

The most important thing is to have a solid contract in place before you do anything. And even with one, there's still a risk of getting screwed over.

Thanks for all your advice. She is back in town on Monday, and we are to "get together".

I think I am going to go into this as if she needs me, just as much as I need her. There are thousands of pornstars out there (probably more of us though, huh ha ha)

I'll sit and hear her out and see what she's looking for - all of her content has been produced by Brazzers, NA, Reality Kings - so she doesn't have rights to it.

So we would be starting from scratch - a camera, a server and the hopes that people click over and buy the shit - it would be a ton of work...!

I don't have any resources to put into this venture - so it would all have to come from her.

Yeah - I know, this is going to be a tough one..! She has a son - so I'm not sure how much "FREE" time she has to do trades shows, etc. I'll find that out next week.

She got upset with me cause I put together an affiliate page with all of her Brazzers and NA content, hoping we could get some traffic and make some money to use for content filiming - but she wants me to hold off on anything until we work out the details. Which is very understandable.

Maybe you guys can critique my affiliate page - give me some ideas?

It's all about the content and without that one key point there is no point in focusing or wasting time on anything else. You are going to need to work that out before anything else because without it your site is dead in the water.

Just wanted to give everyone an update, since you have all been so helpful so far...

We finally met yesterday, and since she doesn't have any original content, we are just going to get her hooked up to a web cam and I am going to charge her an hourly rate and a few bucks for hosting.

I'm thinking that a pay per view setup is the best way to go at first - since we don't know how many live shows she can do - as she dances at clubs and has a son.
