Vbulletin - how to delete user/ban him, remove ALL his threads/posts?

Anyone can give me step by step on how to do this please?

1 of my forums is getting smashed with spammers lately :disgust

Unless vB made some drastic changes, that's not possible. You can however look for a vB hack that does that.

Also, you might want to install some kind of spam protection.

shit, that sucks!!!! there is about 100 new threads on my forum, i've been deleting them 1 by 1, :(

but what is "prune" does that have anything to do with deleting all existance of a user?

cryptie 09-25-2008 10:43 PM

yes. the latest version has a banhammer.

select one post to delete, in the delete dialog box, select "delete all from user" and check "ban user"

alternativly, if you do not have the newest one, view the user's profile page, select "view all posts by user" select the top checkbox, and hit delete.

Prune is vbullitin's was of deleting things with criteria. I've told their developers it should be renamed from pruned to purged.

prune does things like "delete all users with 0 posts" but can do more complex things like "delete all users with less then 5 posts that joined before 2006 that have not signed in in 3 months"

it also does threads, posts and forums.

cryptie, you rock man, your 2nd "altenratively" suggestion is working like a charm, :)

thx thx!!!!

and thanks for the definition of the "prune" tool also :thumbsup

Ok, so I guess this 1 spammer has over 1000 threads alone, I'm going thru deleting 25 at a time, still very slow but tiny bit quicker I guess, if anymore suggestions how to mass delete certain user threads please let me/us know :)

Bojangles 09-25-2008 11:26 PM

I'll hit you up on ICQ.

CunningStunt 09-25-2008 11:34 PM

Look over in the vbulletin forums, there's a hack I used before to sort that issue. Don't waste your time deleting 25 at a time.

jscott 09-25-2008 11:41 PM

Bojangles thanks a lot man :)

Cunningstunt, I'll check vb forums, thanks

Bojangles 09-25-2008 11:47 PM

You're welcome. Looks like everything has been taken care of. :)

cryptie 09-26-2008 12:21 AM

:p I'm pretty sure here was an option to list all of them instead of 25 at a time. which version vB are you running?

rowan 09-26-2008 12:25 AM

Hmmm, my vers of vbull is about 2 years old and I can delete a user and all his posts using the control panel... what are we missing? :)

Users -> Search for Users -> enter Username -> Exact Match
drop down: Quick User Links [Delete User]
"If you want to prune all the user's messages first, please click here" - click on that and the msgs are gone, then you can continue to delete the user if you wish...

Threads/posts > Prune > Prune by Username
That's it

Some Guy 09-26-2008 03:54 AM

Dude, it's super easy. Just look the username up, select "delete user" and it will also give you an option to delete all the user's posts as well, including any threads they've started.
