Hardware Gurus please help Is PCI express compat with PCI X

I want to convert one of my servers into a highend desktop

the system has 64 bit pci x slots

can I use a PCI express graphics card in these slots?/

PCI-X is not PCI Express. PCIe replaced PCI-X. PCI-X is basically EISA of the late 90s. Retire that thing. :thumbsup

Sure, it'll fit. Just slam it in the slot and power it on, we won't miss you.

PCI-X ("extended") is a 64 bit PCI extension, adding extra fingers to the card. If your comp (server?) supports it then you can probably buy cheap second hand PCI-X cards on ebay and the like, cos it's pretty much obsolete.

PCI Express is a totally different approach, using serial rather than parallel communication, and dedicated channels rather than a shared bus.

It's unfortunate they both use ex* words, there's plenty of potential for confusion...
