Americans... Is This A Telemarketing Scam ....

SO I get this automated call to my T-Mobile cell (US, on global roam always - and yes, that costs a fuckload) a week or so back congratulating me on winning a Caribbean holiday.

I smiled, followed the prompts, and left an Australian cell number for them to call me back.

Yesterday they did...

www.calypsocay.com (1800 092 368) AKA www.4vacation.net (1800 638 913)

Long and short of it...

6 days / 5 nights at Silver Lake Resort in Orlando FLA, with "VIP" day tickets for 4 to Disneyworld and 7 days car hire with unlimited miles.

PLUS

3 days / 2 nights at Plaza Ocean Club in Daytona Beach FLA

3 days / 2 night Bahama Cruise on Imperial Majesty (ALL inclusive, and this was the "free" part).

ALL of the above for US$598 for 2 adults and 3 kids.

So following the long held wisdom of "If it looks/sounds too good to be true it probably is" I am sceptical.

Thoughts ?

its a time share deal... you are required to go to a seminar i bet, or they will pitch the shit out of you the whole time you are there....

Pete-KT 09-25-2008 06:42 PM

Could be a way to just get business and people to go on vacation, Id look more into and see what other people have posted on the net about them..

P.S.

LINDSEY i miss you and the wifey, hope to see you guys soon

After Shock Media 09-25-2008 06:44 PM

Cough time share meeting hell cough.

If you can enjoy a vacation with a nat in your ear the entire time talking and bugging the living hell out of you with hard sales then its a cheap trip.

Yeah, figured same, but can cope with that for the price.

I'll just walk around with my cock hanging outside of my shorts when the salespeople are around.

When they stop selling, I'll stop hanging.

He he

Yeah it is, which is the only reason I even ask.

Fuckload cheaper than the planned kids trip to Disneyland .. same same for them anyway.

Thanks ~

you can deal with it for 45 minutes worth of a sales pitch. when they sit you down after the little tour and bust out the goods, say "OMG!, this is the thing my <insert relative> lets me use for 2 weeks free every year, I'm all set mate"

S and I did that in Cabo our first day in cuz we had nothing planned yet and I thought we would score some free jet ski's and crap like that for the rest of the week. they fed us breakfast, we fast tracked the tour and they were donedealing with me in 10 min with that arguement. We had all access to their grounds and drink tickets so we went into their biz center to jack internet (was down at our place at least for that day), swam in their beautiful pool, drank their booze, amazing beachfront and they gave us $200 or $250 in cash. nice day

Imortyl Pussycat 09-26-2008 12:59 AM

and btw, i miss you honey. get your ass out here soon!!!

Bama 09-26-2008 01:33 AM

Go to their time share pitch and at the end put on a distraught face and say..

"I just came here so I could finally get away from the creditors calling my house for a few days - God! They I'm so far behind in my bills and they never let up! Thank you for paying for this trip for me - I couldn't afford to have come here otherwise"

uno 09-26-2008 08:23 AM

Looks like a straight up CC scam searching for the url in google, but could be timeshare also.

I got some nice trips out of it, show tickets, watches, mini-tv's...all sorts of stuff...

I had a similar situation. Everything they told you was right. They simply forgot to mention that you are required to fly on one specific airline and the tickets are $4000 each.

If it is a timeshare, get there and sign up for the timeshare right away. I believe you get a two week right of refusal after you sign. So, come home all rested up and cancel it. The salespeople won't be there to ride your ass.

Thanks for that tip - I'll check the airline stuff right away.

CTB....

you need to look up the south park episode on time shares... if you still go for it, best of luck.

On the other hand I will admit that I have a time share as well, but its been in the family so long the yearly dues are cheap and when I stay at the vegas one for the Jan show it costs me 45 dollars for a 5 day stay. Is it worth it. to some it is, to some it isnt

Sarah_Jayne 09-27-2008 04:20 AM

Does it start with the sound of a cruise ship horn? If so, I get those same scam calls here in the UK.

They go in batches..I don't get them for ages and then I get them once a week for a month. I always hang up once the captain introduces himself. If they are doing it that way there has to be something wrong with them. Especially if we are getting the same message a world apart.

cherrylula 09-27-2008 08:11 AM

yeah a scam, watch out.

there will be limitations on the hotel and additional fees on the plane tickets... gotta make their cheese somehow!
