First Prez Debate on Friday... who will win?

The main focus will be on foreign policy which is McCain's only real area of strength in this election. Although without Lieberman behind him to feed him the facts the GOP will be praying that he stays on script.

I think Obama will be 1-0 after this debate despite McCain's tenure in D.C.

I went to a McCain town hall meeting in July and his performance was weak.. he had no real plan for anything except for taxing people's benefits and staying in Iraq. The majority of his hour long meeting was avoiding direct questions and getting cheap applause by reminding all of us, over & over, that we were the backbone of this country.

I went to an Obama rally just last week the contrast was incredible. He discussed specific plans for a range of issues including the economy, the wars, taxes, energy.. he's clearly going to do more for the majority of us than McPalin.

He's even going to do more for our veterans than McCain.. including recognizing & actually treating the many PTSD cases our soldiers are coming home with. Bush/McCain have been intentionally misdiagnosing PTSD cases just to save money & to prevent bad publicity. A friend of ours has already been on 2 tours in Iraq, in combat, and is home now and in bad shape. The government says he is just depressed and prescribed him Prozac, even though doctors he's paid for himself report PTSD.. but the treatment is too expensive for him, and current regulations prevent the military from helping out.

I think you're right, but unfortunately people are going to hear what they want to hear.

You have watching that crap

Obama will win but McCain will get huge points for hanging in and not looking like an idiot. The same will probably happen with the VP debate.

Obama nor Biden can treat either McCain nor Palin with disdain or talk down to them whereas McCain/Palin have free reign to do that to them(for reference see Reagan: "There you go again." or "I will not take advantage of the youth and inexperience of my opponent."). Obama will appear like a condescending elitest beating up grandpa and Biden will look like he hates women.

Good points uno. One thing I can say about McCain is he had great political instinct to pick Palin, she's the only reason he isn't dead in the water.... of course if elected she'll be sharpening pencils in the White House while him and his boys make the big decisions.

As for the elitest thing, I really hope undecided voters are past that. It's already been made very public that McCain was the guy wearing the $400 shoes & the $5,000 make-up jobs, driving 1 of his 13 cars from 1 of his 7 homes after kissing his wife goodbye as she was off to her massive alcohol distribution headquarters, which owns even more cars which she drives. Barack & Michelle.. 1 house, 1 car and long records of public service.

Pretty difficult to predict.

Many of the debates have been won on superfluous factors like humor (Reagan's jokes "there you again" vs Carter and the age joke vs Mondale), body language (Gore's eye rolls), appearance (Kennedy vs Nixon; makeup vs none).

The winner is the guy that gets elected, not the one that people feel did better in a debate...

Regardless. Looks like it's going to be postponed... so no "winners" for the time being.

Debates can make or break a candidate but often they have no real meaning. Public opinion in the last election said that Kerry won all three debates, yet he really got nothing for it. If the candidates really want to gain something from this they need to set forth a specific agenda and come off presidental and if, while doing that, they can manage to make the other guy look bad it could help.

Obama was brilliant in getting the agendas switched. This first debate was supposed to be on the economy, but he got that topic switched to the last debate and this one became about foreign policy. The public has a short memory and the economy is number one on people's minds so it was smart of him to get the economy changed to the last debate. If he does well in that the thing people will remember about the debates is that he knew his shit on the economy.

Probably won't even fucking matter unfortunately.

Bush got crushed in every debate he didn't give a fuck, one of the debates he looked like he was half asleep, still kicked Kerry's ass when the votes came in.
