How many times per week do you google/wiki something?

No less than 25-30 for me. I think many younger people take for granted that you can learn the answer to almost any question conceivable in a matter of seconds, thanks to google/wiki. 20 years ago, your ass had to go to the library and sit on that computer with the hercules monochrome monitor and search for shit, or hit the dreaded catalog cards.

Yet still, we're drowning in the company of blissfully indifferent idiots. :Oh crap

sweetredhead 09-23-2008 01:53 PM

Google yes all the time but wiki not so much

uno 09-23-2008 01:53 PM

Do people still go to the library?

Fletch XXX 09-23-2008 01:56 PM

i wiki all day long, i have it as default search bar on firefox toolbar

wiki, dictionary, and google are my friends

Brad 09-23-2008 01:57 PM

Well you kind of answered your own question as to why people are generally stupid these days. If you just accept what google has ranked at the top as your answer, chances are you are no less educated on a subject than you were when you began. Assuming you have ever done research at a library you already knew that.

But ya, computer indexing and electronic copies of trusted periodicals really save time. I can't even begin to imagine how much time it would have taken to do real research on a subject before the internet. I've done the library thing, but only when the source wasn't available electronically...and anyone who has been to university in the last decade knows that most of everything is indexed online now.

yeah, i use dictionary.com to confirm spellings on odd words when i'm not %100 sure i got it right.

I created my own stage page from scratch that I keep locally on my machine. It has google and google picture search built into it. I use that dozens of times a day.

I also love Wikipedia and I must hit that twenty times a day.

You're absolutely right about google. As much as I use it, you have to take PR with a grain of salt, and often look at the first two pages of results, as your top results are often 'sponsored', aka someone paying to make their version of the truth at the forefront.

I did plenty of library research back in the day, and though it was grueling, it did yield a generally more solid quality of information. I think you can get that same quality online, it just takes a little practice and discerning judgment on sources.

Like 500 for google? Maybe 100 for wikipedia because i read it at work.

V_RocKs 09-23-2008 02:06 PM

100's a day.

Manowar 09-23-2008 02:09 PM

easily into the hundreds

SBJ 09-23-2008 02:10 PM

I use my google search in my toolbar like 10 times a hour haha. Sometimes i use it just to see if I'm spelling a word correctly since ff browser spell check is very limited.

I also have my laptop on while watching tv and do tons of google searches for stuff or shows i see on tv.. Google is the most used site I use daily I would say

231,000 . . . give or take

carol.prime 09-24-2008 09:05 AM

minimum of 100 in google, I think 20-30 for wiki. :)

Scott McD 09-24-2008 09:11 AM

I use both countless times per day, never mind per week.

Every day is a school day... ;-)

Basic_man 09-24-2008 09:14 AM

I spend too much time on the internet, daily! :)

CaptainHowdy 09-24-2008 09:17 AM

10 maybe 15 times a day ...

Strickie 09-24-2008 09:19 AM

I'd say about 50 times a day

Cyandin 09-24-2008 09:37 AM

I'd like to see the results of a test of general knowledge, between two groups of similarly educated (formally) people, with one group being daily google/wiki'ers, and the other not.

I bet the results would be amusing.

Antonio 09-24-2008 09:42 AM

google - at least 10-20 times per day

seeandsee 09-24-2008 09:46 AM

Hundred of times per month

Sosa 09-24-2008 09:52 AM

i google all the time, hardly wiki

marko13 09-24-2008 10:11 AM

i google a lot of time per day.... but i wiki very little.... and i like to read online but sometimes some things are better when i read them on hard copy....

Kudles 09-24-2008 11:20 AM
