using two password files (.passwd)
 

Hey guys, I have a new bunch of paysites getting setup soon and one of them has heaps of downloadable movies. I want to link to the movies site from my other 10 paysites members sections and I can't use .htaccess refurr auth that checks the refurring URL as that doesn't let the users download the movie, I need there password to work for both sites, the paysite they signed up for and the movie paysite as well.

Anyone know a good quality way of merging these password files or making the .htaccess access both password files??

We solved this issue for our customers by creating what we call our PRS system (Private Referrer System). It uses a combination of PHP sessions and referrer checking (among some other trickery) to allow our customers to do exactly what you are looking to do. It works so well that many of our customers use this system to sell their movie content as a third party feed (PRS has built in stats, etc).

You might talk to a programmer and see if you can have something like this built for you...

I needed the same thing. I found a perl script that just merged the two .htpasswd file and used ncftpget on a cron to automatically grab the new .htpasswd file. But my .htpasswd files were on two seperate servers entirely. Ignore me, I just woke up.

just use two gates into your members area ..
