HELP ME: I was supposed to go Rent a Scarry Movie.

Ms Boneprone sent me out to go get a scarry movie for tonight's halloween and i coulnt think of anything..

I need help thinking of some movies.

boneprone 10-31-2002 05:03 AM

FUCK.... It seems all the scarry movies i watched growing up are low budget slasher movies that are just plain silly today.

Halloween, Friday 13th, Psycho all those are just silly, not scarry.

I know movies like the Shinning are good, but damn ive seen it a million times. We are having people over, so i cant get something i find fun, but somethign that a group of people will be happy with.

boneprone 10-31-2002 05:07 AM

As a last resort, i picked up Poltergeist and CuJo.

I havent seen either one of these in YEARS.. Like 16 years!!

I remeber they were scarry at the time, and as far as I know they were done better than the "usual" slasher movies.

I was watching E!'s true Hollywood story on the crew of poltergeist and they are saying they were all cursed, since they all died!!

I thought that was pretty cool, so i picked up the movie.
I dont even remeber it really from the day, I jsut remeber as a kid it was pretty good.

And I picked up CUJO becasue my wife is scared of dogs, so i thought it would be cool.

Joe Sixpack 10-31-2002 05:09 AM

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre... directed by Tobe Hooper, the same guy who made Poltergeist.

Many people to this day insist that the film must have been directed by Steven Spielberg.

Perhaps the reason he didn't want much credit for this movie was because E.T. The Extra Terrestrial was released at the same time, and he didn't want to draw attention away from that. The publicity surrounding this question probably hurt Tobe Hooper, who didn't really go on to a stellar career after this.

boneprone 10-31-2002 05:21 AM

I remember seeing that as a kid.
It wasnt that scarry.

It was more the thought that it was a true story that was scarry.

It ended up being just an ordinary slasher movie didnt it?

I just dont remember it being scarry?? It was like 16 years ago though so who knows, maybe it was scarry to me at the time.

I jut dont recall it being scarry.

Wasnt Polterguist scarry?

I just hope it isn corny now days.

Loch 10-31-2002 05:31 AM

For some reason i dont think you can find "really scary" movies anymore.....
They are all sorta lame, they might have 1 or 2 a bit scary moments but thats IT!:321GFY

Nahh i remember Ailien as the most scary one when i was a kid.

The Evil Dead
Mausoleum
PIN

very good horror movies ... recommended for the "hard to scare" crowd :winkwink:

Joe Sixpack 10-31-2002 05:55 AM

"Jesus Christ: Vampire Hunter" might be what you're looking for considering your association with Jesus Dialler and Jesus Hitbot.
Besides, I love the tag line:
"The first testament says 'an eye for an eye'
The second testament says 'Love thy neighbor'
The third testament says 'Kick Ass!!'"

Dead Alive is EXCELENT, great for laughs and excellent gore.

I donīt find Horror Movies scary, i get a fucking kick out of them.
I have hundred of horror movies in my collection, and the only ones that still freak me out are Suspiria, TCM and The Exorcist.

Urban Legend.

.:Frog:. 10-31-2002 10:59 AM

Boneprone I'm like you, I watched a movie as a kid and thought it was scary.
After watching it again several years later I laughed during the film.

I'll recommend 4 movies that are scary, even after watching more then once:

- Event Horizon
- Phantoms

Now if you want classics then go with:
- Exorcist
- Polterguist

Just remember that everyone at your "party" or whatever has likely seen the bottom 2 many times. I would recommend 'Phantoms' of the 4 listed.

I just saw Demons yesterday. It's definitely more campy than creepy, but if you like that Dario Argento-style Italian stuff, then it's a great example!

Sly_RJ 10-31-2002 11:12 AM

Sphere is kind of creepy.

theone 10-31-2002 11:23 AM

BURNT OFFERINGS. Nothing scarier except for a sighting of wacko jacko.

MagicksAntics 10-31-2002 12:41 PM

Is it just me or has there been a shortage of good horror flicks lately? Are they just more scary when you're a kid?

You'd think that with the advancement of technology and all the cool special effects they are able to do they would come out with a decent one at least...

Angel Heart...not exactly a "scary" movie but it sure freaked me out.

Fletch XXX 10-31-2002 12:43 PM

Resident Evil was another recent purchase that was scary, modern with good effects. If ya like the game, I did. Dug the movie as well.

As well as the Canadian psycho thriller 'The Cube'

I was going to mention that too :)

the original Night Of The Living Dead still packs a punch too..

The Pool is also a damn good flick..a recent low budget slasher, but delivers the goods...

If you're watching with a group of friends, you need to set the atmosphere for a good scare....lights out of course, a no "wisecracks" rule, serve popcorn (NOT in your special bucket ;)) and have someone who's alerady seen the movie(s) be on standby for a couple "boos"

MagicksAntics 10-31-2002 01:02 PM

The HellRaiser flicks were pretty good...

decisions decisions...

boldy 10-31-2002 01:04 PM

Prince of darkness .. (like 15 years old already)
