Green Jello...remember them?

They're back and playing at the Icehouse tonight with Deadly Seven, Radioactive Chickenheads and Kreep...

should be an insane show...

PennyLane (not Flame) 09-22-2008 11:44 AM

rhon23 09-22-2008 11:48 AM

yeah, sadly a good shitman pic is hard to find

youtube has decent quality videos though...hehe

SykkBoy 09-23-2008 08:57 AM

Wow! What a concert!
Sadly, Shitman didn't make an appearance, but most of the other characters were, including The Cow God and a new Rabbi character...

The evening started off with Deadly Seven, who remind me a little of Cycle Sluts From Hell. Great show that ended with the entire bar covered with feathers.

After that, Kreep took the stage and blew the roof off the punk joint...think Pantera X1000. High energy and the best pure music moment of the night.

Ater a looooooooooong changeover, the Radioactive Chickenheads took the stage. The band is made up of a couple guys from GJ and a few other musicians. Then wear chicken head costumes (pictures to come later) and play a silly, but fun show featuring songs like "Cluck You".

Just when we thought it was time for the headliners, a surprise gig from Rosemary's Billygoat exploded over the stage, complete with awesome pyro and a giant pentagram pizza. RBG is also made up from a couple members of GJ and RCH.

Then it was time for Green Jello to hit the stage and almost fucking 1am....they destroyed. Smoke filled the stage as various people were invited onstage for impromptu onstage moshpits. The evening ended with literally everyone that was left in the venue at the end of the 5 hour music marathon invited onstage to sing 3 Little Pigs...The lead singer of GJ was surfing on a crowd of fans on the stage while singing the song. It was amazing and something that could only have been done at a dingy punk club on the outskirts of the Arts District...

This was a secret warmup show for Green Jello who will be touring starting early next month. I highly suggest it for anyone tired of shitty shoegazer bands who just stand there and play their instruments and bitch about making money...

um_designs 09-23-2008 09:05 AM

yup, 3 little pigs kick 'em! old skul rules.

rowan 09-23-2008 09:26 AM

Is it Green Jelly that have a song that pays homage to a bunch of classics? There's a few bars of a bunch of different songs all linked together into a single track (actual playing, not mixing wizardry). I looked on YouTube but couldn't find anything obvious... if it wasn't GJ it was another "we don't take ourselves too seriously" band...

rowan 09-23-2008 09:27 AM

Aha! It's Scatter"Don't call me dude"brain

Down With the Ship ---> https://youtube.com/watch?v=qze06Ig2eQM

hehe, yeah, I was going to say that was Scatterbrain, but you already beat me to it :)

GJ has a new song "Gifelte Fish" that has elements of Marilyn Manson's "Beautiful people" laced throughout the song...I remember they also got sued by metallica for "borrowing" song elements

Something odd has happened to these guys over the years...they've actually become pretty damn good musicians while still maintaining the DIY, over the top stage shows

Kudles 09-23-2008 09:53 AM

I have never heard of them

d-null 09-23-2008 10:06 AM

didn't the guy from Tool drum for that band?

They still pronounce it j-e-l-l-o though, the omlaut over the Y means you pronounce the Y as an O
;-)

Oddly enough, one of the girls from Deadly Seven reminded me of you, Tassy

Slick 09-24-2008 12:09 AM

That's great to hear that they're back/still together. I used to like them back in the day. I'll add "The Bear Song" to the thread :)

Slick 09-24-2008 12:18 AM

Then there's "Anthem" which a lot of people probably don't know because it was never released as a single and was on their second album, it's one of my favorites from them. I get a kick outta it. "Raise your hands because you got free pop and chips today", ha ha ha.

SykkBoy 09-24-2008 09:31 AM

This is how the show ended:

He was being hoisted by fans onstage, there were about 40 onstage for the song and he was crowdsurfing with only a lightbeam for support...

I admit, when they first came out onstage and Carrot Topp started singing, I was thinking "Is that Jello Biafra under there?"
