Guy gets electrocuted licking is laptop monitor WTF?
 

A man was found electrocuted beside is computer screen, the mother became suspicious of her sons death when she did not hear any moaning sounds coming from is bedroom for a few days. The mother told Blackburn Citizen that her son would be locked up in is bedroom for days sometimes however something was not right because she did not hear any noise from the bedroom for a few days.

She knocked and knocked & still no reply, she became anxious. The son would always lock is door, so she called a locksmith to unlock the door. When the door was finally opened, she found her son with his head lying on is keyboard & his face was covered in black & tongue was covered in blood. She also noticed porn images & videos on the son computer.

Autopsy revealed that he probably died from electrocution from licking is monitor screen.

Those little CCFL (cold cathode fluorescent lamp - the thing that lights up your screen) inverters are a tad scary... I can certainly imagine that happening if the unit failed.

I recall playing with a small inverter from and old scanner... the contacts would arc and burn little holes in my fingers with very little sensation. Thankfully I noticed the micro BBQ odour and desisted.

Yes and no.

Facial burns would be consistent with HV from the inverter, however the burn process would have taken a while (with the inverter still functioning). Taking that into consideration along with the poor conductivity of human skin / flesh, I think it is still quite plausible.

The backlight probably wouldn't have illuminated whilst the guy's head was a part of the circuit, but afterwards it may well have flicked back on.


I'm talking about an LCD monitor incidently, a CRT would be many times worse in a similar occurence.

Since this topic is about lcd monitors, I have a question. I have a Samsung monitor and my cord doesn't work anymore, I tried like 4 different cords (talking about the cord that goes into the monitor from the pc) and none of them fit PROPERLY into the monitor....

You know how they have two screws in the end? Both of them won't completely go in the monitor end so it keeps falling out... is this dangerous, can i get electrocuted or something? it keeps falling out and i keep placing them back... i tried every different cords and none of them work and i dont think samsung sells the specific cord separately for my model...

how come both of the screw things won't screw in?? it keeps falling out and i have to put it back in all the time.... does anyone know what i am talking about?

so is it also dangerous to clean your lcd monitor with a cloth and lcd cleaning solution? Cause if its possible to be electrocuted through licking then it would also be possible to be electrocuted if the cloth is damp/wet with cleaning solution? Does anyone know?
