I saw "The Ring" the other day...

and it was fuckin scary!

I think that it could rank as the scariest movie that I have ever seen!

EVER!

Jon2 10-30-2002 10:32 PM

I couldn't disagree more

Za Ha 10-30-2002 10:34 PM

:eek7 :eatmouse

That movie plays pure mind games!!!

Especially when the girl comes out of the tv... dont tell me that wasn't scary!

[Labret] 10-30-2002 10:40 PM

Fuck, I had the misfortune of watching this hunk of shit this evening.

That movie was two hours of my life wasted. We Were Soldiers and The Exorcist scared me a hell of alot more than that movie.

I guess you watch a few dozen Chechen snuff films and some bad graphic of a kid coming out of a TV screen doesnt cut it anymore.

dav555add 10-30-2002 10:41 PM

what happens if you don't have a tv available on the 7th day???

true... also, how about if you have no phone at the beginning?

[Labret] 10-30-2002 11:09 PM

As one reviewer put it

Quote:

Believe it or not, I haven't even gotten to the really braindead part. There's a murdered little girl at the heart of the story and she's responsible for the videocassette of death. The girl was killed roughly mid-century so it's not clear what kind of sinister stuff she did to keep busy prior to the invention of the VCR. Or whether she has plans to upgrade to DVD. All we know for sure is that the young lady possesses virtually unlimited supernatural powers but has chosen to confine the havoc she's wreaked from beyond the grave to a snail-paced campaign of murder by film short. As embodiments of pure evil go, this kid ranks as maybe the laziest in movie history.

If you want to be scared out of your wits, see the original version of Ring -- the Japanese version. The ghost in that version is insanely scary.

Yes, the original version rocks :thumbsup

harvey 10-31-2002 12:42 AM

I don't need movies to be scared of, I've bandwidth bills! :glugglug

eRock 10-31-2002 12:46 AM

I'm gonna hafta agree w/ Labret. I just caught it tonight...whatr a waste of time & $$$. The first 15 minutes was really good.,..all down hill from there. The only good thing about it was the insanely cute Naomi Watts...bka the little hottie in Moholland Drive.

Voodoo 10-31-2002 12:51 AM

The Ring was not scary at all.
I don't see what the big deal is.

I mean, the whole thing was about some lame VHS tape.
Come one? How scary is a video tape?

Oh, and the dead girl crawling out of the T.V. ?
That was pretty lame.

The rest of the movie was lacking in story content, and excitement.

It's a good thing I had my g-friend there, or I'd have fallen asleep.
She didn't think it was scary either.

Although, I think I'm kind of desensitized to all that stuff.

See, I think the following pic is scary:

EEEEEEK! What the hell!!! ARGH!!!!

eRock 10-31-2002 12:54 AM

See...I thought the story was ok...a bit slow, but ok till the very end. Now that didn't make sense at all!

Me and all my girlfriends dressed up like little girls in jammys and ponytails and saw it. The part when she came out of the TV freaked me out and I lost all my popcorn. When we got home we were all talking about it and that thing about when the TV did that wavy thing and 2 lights in the house went out, we freaked!!! So we all sleeped at the same house with all the lights on.

I agree.

From the trailer, it looked like a genuinely scary movie - not like that other movie out now, Ghost Ship - That's just another 13Ghosts, repackaged and marketed towards the young audience.

It's another one of those things that movies come out that are almost identical in plot. It's just like Fear.com, just 7 days, instead of 3, to die.

The Ring had some really great parts (walking out of the tv, crawling out of the well, etc), but a few good parts don't make a good movie.

As far as my review of this movie - I give the Ring ... the finger.

argh!!!!!!!! goddamn American popcorn buying motherfucks....The Ring was originally a Japanese movie BEFORE Feradotcom (hahaha, not you personally Turboface ;))) This is why I am so adament about people seeking out foriegn horror films....while I loved the American version, definately check out the original...much scarier...

Labret, you'd probably enjoy the Guinnea Pig movies out of Japan..after those, it takes quite a bit to shock me...

For me, the fun of the Ring was watching other people in the theater....I knew the major plot points from the original, but it was still fun....the downside to PG13 horror movies is the goddamn high school kids getting in to watch them...they never shut the fuck up or turn off their goddamn cell phones (hey, fuckface, you're 15, the call can't be that fucking important)....but funny shit, when we went and saw it, there was a group of gangbangers talking trash to each other, but after the first "boo" scare, some of those "hard" motherfuckers hit the exits...and one gangbanger had a fucking SpongeBob backpack...what the fuck? Fucking kids these days...

sorry, got off track...but yeah, I liked the movie....

it is getting harder to scare people nowadays though...real life snipers, another threat of war, zany arab folk ramming planes into buildings...a dude in a William Shatner Mask and coveralls or a foul-mouthed 9 year puking on priests and masturbating with crosses just don't seem as imposing....

To save money, they should of just released the Japanese movie in SUBTITLES in USA and use the rest of the film budget for advertising.

Americans are so god-damn ignorant about foreign films. Drives me nuts.

People still wouldn't see it. Most Americans go to the movies to get away from shit at home and work, the last thing they want to do is pay $13 to read and think.

I just donwloaded the original Japanes version and watched it. I suppose it wasn't bad, but it sure as fuck wasn't scary. People are saying the new one is even less scary. I think I'd fall asleep if that were the case.

foe 10-31-2002 04:26 PM

hmm now i may have to get it

Za Ha 10-31-2002 05:41 PM

Anything scarier that is on tape now that I could go rent for the weekend?
