Things I've learned so far on my cross-country move to California

1. Louisiana swamp-stink smells like dirty vaginas, but they have decent to very good boudin damn near anywhere you stop.

2. Outside of Austin, Dallas, and Houston, there really is nothing in Texas but steers and queers

3. I?ve peed in so many gross places that I can now hold it in like a camel. They should administer tetanus shots after you leave rest area bathrooms.

4. Never, ever, EVER stop in Canton, TX for the night. They?re a dry county () and when you ask for a glass of wine with dinner, they look at you like you?ve just shot the President.

I just took a shower and had a relaxing dinner in Alberquerque, New Mexico and I'm off to Arizona in the morning! :banana:banana

have driven the old I-10 from coast to coast so many times.

one of the best drives Americans can take.

back and forth between NOLA and Cali is awesome.

once those plains open up and you drive through the roads cut out of rock, it shows the determination our ancestors had to during Manifest Destiny.

Is Texas really that bad???

I went through a lot of boring, shitty little towns. We stopped for lunch in Vernon, TX and it looked like a ghost town. Downtown businesses all empty and boarded up. No one with teeth to be found for miles.

However, I have family in Austin and that city is AMAZING. I also went through Dallas and have been to Houston and those are obviously booming cities.

The funny thing is that we would be driving with nothing around for miles and then out of nowhere you see this empty lot with an adult bookstore. Porn really is everywhere! :winkwink:

Texaa from border to border is 24 hours of the drive. From Beaumont, Texas, to El Paso Texas is quite a haiul...

From New Orleans to Los Angeles is 32 hours or so.

Texas is BIGGEr than France, so driving through it sucks.

All they have is dead armadillos and christian radio stations LOL

Fletch XXX 09-16-2008 06:35 AM

Austin should not even be part of Texas its so much nicer and different than the rest, but that is due to the college.

xmas13 09-16-2008 06:36 AM

sortie 09-16-2008 09:20 AM

You are on one "SHIT DRIVE!!!!!"
(well, if going by hwy 10(after hwy 20))

And you have seen the best. New Mexico, Arizona, California desert is left.

You will see nothing but fucking rocks until you get to LA.

You will get blown off the road in a dust storm in Arizona if you don't grip the wheel.

Damn, good luck.

PS: Dont ever stop anywhere outside a major city in Texas.
Unless you want you own personal episode of "Deliverance".

I dunno, Did that drive from Yuma to SD, and enjoyed the dunes and also the mountains... only thing is that you need to be sure to have good cd's / mp3s because for most of the drive you only get shitty Mexican radio channels.

Looks like a lot of people are leaving Florida. I just moved back to NYC from FL last week. The drive wasn't bad except for the farm town in N.C. I got off at to get gas in the middle of the night and there was nothing but corn fields.

Monique Niccole 09-16-2008 12:33 PM

Thanks for the well wishes y'all. New Mexico was gorgeous. I'm in Holbrook, Arizona now and I'll be in Cali soon!

I lived in houston for a couple of years. The state definately has some beautiful landscapes, but what i disliked the most about the place was the people. Being from rural montana, i grew up around farms, ranches, etc. So in tx, seeing people with 4 door two wheel drive duely pickups with a 6" lift kit on it, that they use as a grocery getter, justifying the vehicle with thier 5 acres and a horse with 3 hooves in the grave (they figure that makes them a rancher i guess) bugs the hell out of me. I shouldnt let it irritate me, but it does. its just so freakin retarded.

TubeTitans_SusieQ 09-16-2008 12:58 PM

shoulda told me! I woulda moved with ya!

When I drove cross country from MD to CA I stopped in Arizona for the night. I had never seen so many stars before in my entire life. It was amazing!

Enjoy the rest of your trip, everyone should do it at least once in their lives.
