Find lost money?

I watched Dateline last night about people finding money they didn't know they had , or lost ..
so I went to the website http://www.unclaimed.org - and actually found money for myself AND my son. It wasn't a lot, but it's ours.
there are links to every state there - CA and LA are impossibly slow right now - but you might want to bookmark and try when the 'rush' is over .. you may have some money you forgot about!

And you are sure that this is NOT a scam?

Machete_ 10-30-2002 01:55 PM

and you ONLY have to pay $499 to get the money

Oh man - pretty bad when everything is met with skepticism :)

It's not a scam :) There is a form at each state that you fill out and send it in - they send you the money.
There isn't a fee.
It's run by each state.
There is even a place to search for lost savings bonds via the us treasury.

There are people who charge a fee to find lost money, but you can find it yourself if you know how

exactly
that's why the US states formed one site - that gives you access to each state's found money files -
unclaimed.org -
no fee
just your own time
be sure to check maiden names, previous married names, names of someone that you may have inherited from as well

lost money?? where does it really come from?:question

Gramma 10-30-2002 02:21 PM

forgotten bank accounts, checks from stocks that were never cashed (in my case), refunds, utility deposits, uncashed paychecks - other stuff too - it'll explain it if you actually go to one of the states websites and do a search :)

All lost money has a home with me

freeadultcontent 10-30-2002 02:24 PM

it comes from undelivered mail, forgotten bank accounts, savings accounts, deposits, etc...

It is legit, and it is free to get. FYI check variations on your name, if it was a typo that caused you not to get the money in the first place they typo is still there....

You should also look at some of the companies with money that is unclaimed. PGE and Paramount were huge last year.
