Cop warning Surfers ends up saved by Surfers Vid

The surf was up in Pensacola Beach from hurricane Ike and the Surfers were out in full force.
Of course the law was out trying to warn them of the danger but that's what surfers do, ride waves and the bigger the better.

This Cop tries to warn a surfer and soon finds himself in a bad situation.
At least he didn't shoot himself in the foot :1orglaugh

The funny part is that is considered "big surf." Looks like 3' breakers at best.

notoldschool 09-14-2008 09:54 AM

what an idiot. Ever heard of walking?

The viedo really doesn't give a good perspective on the wave size. The waves they are surfing are out past the end of the pier. Here's some pictures from the same swell and place that will give a better perspective especially the first few.

Nice surf for FL I know, but there may have been one 6' in all of those pictures. Most were significantly smaller.

The first eight pictures are from the panhandle area where the waves were the biggest. The rest are from other spots on the Gulf coast from Naples to Tampa where they don't get big waves.

If you look at the second picture and assume that the guy is at least five feet tall, you could stack three of him to get to the top of that wave making it at least a fifteen foot face on that wave.

Actually, that wave is a decent size, but I would go 10-12' :2 cents:

Says the guy who if got on a surfboard would most likely slip and break a hip before hitting the water?

skinnay 09-14-2008 11:20 AM

I'm surprised he wasn't on a segway

How is that Hurricane Ike in May 2008 when it didn't even develop until the end of August?

It's amazing how idiotic your posts are. Just because you are old doesn't mean you know everything - please stop ruining threads like this :2 cents:

V_RocKs 09-14-2008 12:51 PM

That just sucks.

Not my video but you're right there is a conflict there.
There are other videos on youtube of the same incident claiming to be during Ike so I'd say they got the date wrong.

Well that's much better than calling it six foot but you're
still underestimating the size of the surf :upsidedow

On a brighter note and keeping with the thread you are now qualified to work in law enforcement :)
