So i picked up the new Metallica Album this morning

Ok let me first start by saying i am a very old school Metallica Fan, I have seen then about 20 times, hung out with Kirk and James when i was doing rodie work for Overkill and Saw them on On Kill'em All tour, Ride The Lightning and almost every tour since.

I was hoping the new album was as good as they were hyping it up to be, and i have to say (sadly) im hugely dissapointed, its way way way better than that last Piece of crap they put out, and it seems like they are trying to put in some of the older stylings but it falls pretty short in my book.

Im sure alot of people will love this album, but if your looking for the Old style Metallica your just not going to get it with this, its not bad but its not the Bridge between Master of Puppets and And Justice that they keep saying it is

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 09-12-2008 12:27 PM

I am sorry ya wasted your money.
I heard the first track they released before the album came out and new it was going to be a fail.

Something happened to them, it's like they were possessed in there early day and the spirit left them. The Resulting audio foul has ever since ensued.

How the hell would Sober Metallica compare to the old Metallica?

common..

CaptainHowdy 09-12-2008 01:49 PM

Metallica should definetively break up ...

wow you must be really old.. like maybe my age even :1orglaugh They haven't been called "Albums" for long over a decade

Never really been into them but saw them once at the Van Halen Monsters of Rock show with 6 bands a long long time ago

Aquarius 09-12-2008 01:57 PM

I saw them in Tucson last May, that concert rocked! sadly the new CD doesn't.

klaze 09-12-2008 01:59 PM

Watch the Metallica documentary about the album St. Anger

I dunno why they even bother anymore..

Turboface 09-12-2008 02:11 PM

For as unimpressed as I have been from what I have heard of the new album, I have to say that I would love to see them in concert again. It's been years since I seen them. I was 3rd row, in the center, for the Black Album in Philly, many years ago. I remember talking to this girl seated in front of me right before they went on. I was bitchin about how much I paid for the ticket. She paid way more than I did. Seconds later, they took the stage and everyone rushed forward. All you saw was the folding chairs being lifted up and being passed back as the wave of fans moved forward, closer to the stage. While my firends and I were able to kinda keep our ground, I remember turning around later on in the concert, only to see the girl I was talking to, about 20 rows back - lol.

I'll most likely wind up seeing them again when they swing around this neck of the woods.

:thumbsup

I saw Metallica for Kill'em All, so i guess that really shows my age

JayDeeZee 09-13-2008 05:55 AM

I was going to go buy it today. Is it worth buying?

Since I am a fan, It is worth a listen I guess.

I'm going to download and seed it just for the sake of my Metallica hatred. I could give a shit less to even listen to the album, they're a bunch of douchebags. Anyone see the metallicatv vids on youtube? lars is a bitch...

BlackCrayon 09-13-2008 11:45 AM

Kids will probably like it but they haven't a clue.

Yes, its worth buying if you dont have a shallow mind.

Dont ask yourself, does this sound like the old Metallica, does this sound like the new Metallica, and make your decision on if you like it or not based on that.

Just listen to it, and ask yourself if you like the music you are hearing, or not. I happen to think its great, but i'm also a guitar player and have a much more open mind than most people.

wow!! excellent picture

a picture is worth a thousand words, and this one pretty much sums up why they aren't what they used to be :2 cents:

seen them on the Master of Puppets tour and really they haven't put out anything that interests me in the least for about 15 years (didn't bother to count years, it might be longer than that even :1orglaugh)

aico 09-13-2008 11:57 AM

You couldn't tell by that first piece of shit song they put out from it, that it was going to be total crap?

It's no coincidence that the majority of the best musicians died young.

tony286 09-13-2008 12:06 PM

Its hard to make angry and pissed off music once you are rich. lol

Beaver Bob 09-13-2008 12:42 PM

Guess I'm in the minority here. I think its the best thing they've done since the Black Album. The songs are more in the vein of ..And Justice For All and theres a 10 minute insturmental.

No they have absolutely no clue who those guys use to be. :disgust

If bet if we took any one of those kids and threw them in a Ride the Lightning concert they would freak the fuck out. They wouldn't even know what to do with themselves. haha Put'm up in the front too. :1orglaugh

It's not just that, they're not being born/produced, or whatever it is that makes that rare breed of man, anymore. :disgust

Furious_Male 09-13-2008 02:02 PM

I liked "the day that never comes" and "cyanide" when they came out as singles and figured what the hell and got the digital version of the new album today.. I like it for what it is. Sure its not old Metallica (I haven't seen them since the monsters of rock tour in 1988) but listen to it a few times and it will start to grow on you.

WebairGerard 09-13-2008 06:09 PM

compared to the last crap they released this has to be better. the few songs I heard were pretty cool.

I really don't know how anyone can expect them to sound like they did when they were practically kids. They've grown, tastes change, creativity changes, their surroundings and circumstances are totally different.

I mean did you ever think you would see a pic of james wearing those shorts and flip flops while toting an Armani bag??!! Remember this is Metallica we're talking about! :1orglaugh:1orglaugh

OG LennyT 09-13-2008 06:28 PM

Eminem sobered/cleaned up and his music sucks now too.... sobriety and rock and roll don't mix

Spunky 09-13-2008 06:43 PM

It all went downhill after they cut off their hair

Ha this reminds me of a story...

Foufs in Montreal was only a rock/alternative/metal/punk club for about 20 years, but then it changed and tried rotating sets of techno, hip-hop, metal, punk etc... on Friday and Saturday nights to bring in the younger crowd.

Anyhow, most of us who went there to mosh, were all regulars and mostly knew each other. Same with the security/bouncers. Well one week, the plan started to freak out the glow-stick kids and wiggas and to this date it's still one of my favorite memories :)

Everytime the techno or hip-hop set was on, after a few songs the DJ would play a cute little WAV of Albin and the Chipmunks. That was our cue that on next would be Pantera's Walk, or Slipknot's Wait and Bleed, or something similar. So all the security and moshers would start getting ready forming the circle and as soon as it hit, jump in hard and thrash everyone in sight. I'm talking about a good 30 or so guys doing this, every single time.

The looks on the wiggas/glowstick kids faces was always priceless and they feared for their lvies and looked frrantically for escape :1orglaugh

This went on for a long, long time week after week until they caught on.

d-null 09-13-2008 10:48 PM

lol good story Varius :thumbsup

reminds me of many good times years ago hitting the dance floor in full mosh and unsuspecting bouncers not knowing what the fuck was going on thinking a biker brawl was spontaneously breaking out :1orglaugh

we always got tons of respect though and they were cool with us and ended up thinking it was funny

d-null 09-13-2008 10:54 PM

on the Metallica thing, I'm so not interested in anything they are putting out now, they are getting alot of airplay lately and sometimes on two channels at the same time.... to be honest I haven't even sat through an entire song

aico 09-14-2008 12:37 AM

lol, glowstick kids...

UniversalPassLorence 09-14-2008 12:43 AM

It's a great CD, you have to listen to it multiple times and it will get into your blood stream gradually and it wont let go :thumbsup
