How can I find out if my server is slow??
 

My sites are constantly slow here, but my host says everything is fine. What is the best way to tell if my server or bandwidth are OK??

Ok I've used this speed test

and my time was 1,1 sec and that is faster than Microsoft's site :)
So I guess it's pretty fast!

I've tested one more site at my dedicated at the planet - 0,55 and one small site on host gator I have 0,47...

try to download a file and see what speed ratio you get.
If all is good you should get a good speed.

You can add your sites and servers to Web-Tech-Center.com

There you'll be able to monitor your site(s) download speed from Europe and the US, plus have an close eye on your Servers CPU, memory and bandwidth usage, plus Server Load.

And in case anything goes wrong you can also add your email or Mobile Phone Number and you'll receive an Alert Notification, in case you're on vacation etc.

BTW, and you should do a Traceroute at http://www.traceroute.org for your site and post it here, maybe it's not your server but it's connection that slows something down.
Or could also be that you're running a buggy Client based script on your site (i.e. JavaScript, Flash) that slows everything down when your page is already fully loaded.

www.cheatingxxxwife.com appears to trace IN fast but then download speeds are slow. Is your host routing in on Level3 then out on some slow junk like cogent or nlayer or junkie peers? Can you log into your server and do a tracert Out from your server so we can see the results?

Yes sir, that is an old hosting trick. Use good quality bandwidth for incomming, then route the outgoing through Cheap, junkie, slow bandwidth.:2 cents::helpme

Hi, yes I have noticed that when I download one of my vids it starts of at 90kbps then plumets to around 30 kbps. I would be surprised if my host was doing that, but those are definately the symptoms I am seeing....:upsidedow I will see if my host will do a tracert out from my server so I can see.

OK we would all love to see those results. MANY hosts that claim to have teir1 bandwidth do this trick as they might have it but dont use it for you on outgoing traffic thus they are basically lying to you.

Ask it if it knows what animal buffalo wings come from.
