Yea, but we won't stand for it. Only The USA can do some shit like that. If anyone else does it, it's an act of war.

The US wants an anti-missile system to intercept missles from Iran not offensive missles aimed at Russia. We already have enough ICBM's to take Russia out 200 times over !

Well, it did pratically create war ( Invasion of Bay of Pigs ).... Funny how it is OK to put those on Russia's borders.

I don't understand how people can't get the difference between the US wanting to put an ANTI-missile screen up in the Ukraine, and the USSR (Oops, sorry, it's supposed to be Russia now), putting OFFENSIVE missiles in Cuba.

I have two questions.
1. Can't you see the difference?
2. For the Americans on this board.... Are you really that uninterested in the outcome of a global conflict? Would you be cheering if the Russians sent nukes into the US and turned your friends and families into charred corpses just so that you could say, "Nyah nyah nyah! You had it coming!" ??

I just don't get it people.

if you're talking Cuba like in the Cuban crisis a few decades ago the Russians placed their missiles there in response to the US placing long-range missiles in Turkey (or the intention of dpong so, can't remember for sure). The outcome was that the Russians removed the missles from Cuba and the US theirs from Turkey

Without googling it I think the Russian missiles never reached Cuba.
The ships carrying them were blocked by the US marine.

surely they'd 'say' they were only putting up defensive missiles to protect their good friend and trading partner Venezuela.. but that gives them carte blanche passage to send ships carrying all kinds of military cargo..

its not different at all. its the same thing. there is no difference between rending someones else's offensive capability useless by improved defensive capability or just putting more missiles in their front yard

What global conflict? Its about balance of power. Nothing else. There is a massive difference between a bunch of jackasses on a message board and their opinions... and major world powers, their security, national interests, political and economic objectives etc.

The Cold War was a hoax. People don't get that. The Cold War was a hoax that divided the world between two powers and forced them to align with one or the other which was about economic and political objectives, not military/national security.

Russia just slapped Georgia. why? well, in the long thread about it, i said exactly why. They want to flex some muscle because they can. They want some respect and they want to regain some of the influence in the world that they lost. Even a Russian general announced to the world just a couple days ago, exactly that "The world must now realize that Russia is a force to be reckoned with"....

it has little to do with military. It has to do with trade with others who will align themselves with them... i.e. Venuzuela, cuba, Iran, N, Korea, Libya, China etc etc etc. If you want people to fall in behind behind you.. you have to show you can lead.

I have two questions.

.

yes, i can. Russia doesnt have as good of anti-missiles as usa does.

seriously , think about it.

if i hate you and you hate me , you live in new york and i live in l.a. we both have missiles pointing at each other. Now suddenly you put an "anti-missile" in my next door neighbours yard that can shoot down my missiles , but i dont have anything to shoot down your missiles , in the event we have a war you will win. whats my only option to even the odds ? put my missiles so close your anti-missile system wont work :)

Pretty funny isn't it that people can't tell the difference between an ABM which carries a kinetic warhead and a Ballistic missile that has a nuclear warhead.

Simple people like simple answers and the "why can't Russia place ballistic missiles of the U.S. coast if the U.S. can put ABM in Europe?" is about as simple as you can get.

Plus half the people who bitch about it on here either live in some third world shithole or a former soviet shithole so they have that whole "U.S.A. bad" thing going on.

oooh ooh i know , i know

the difference is, usa has great working abm's, russia does not :)

If you and i were enemies, and for years we both hated each other so much we carried around spears incase the other guy attacked us , and lately we hadn't been clutching those spears so tightly anymore, maybe even stopped hating each other so much , then all of a sudden i pick up a large metal shield and called you an asshole , but you dont have a large metal shield, whatcha going to do ?

p.s. your best buddy happens to live next door to me and has a great spot to throw spears at me that i wouldnt be able to use my shield to defend ? :winkwink::winkwink:

Good one but the big metal shield is more akin to a piece of armor on your feet that doesn't protect you at all. You see I have thousands of spears that I can throw at your head without worries of hitting your feet. Now if you put some upper body armor on then I'd have to rethink my plan of attack.

I live in Panama and as a part of the treaty to give the canal back to this country, the US included a cute little piece of wording that amounts to "If we feel like the Panama canal is in any danger, we reserve the right to turn Panama into one big ass US military base and you're just gonna have to sit back and watch."

If Venezuela gets too froggy, I have a feeling that I'll be seeing some of my old friends from the USMC.

so i can keep aquiring more shields and more shields until i am protected from your thousands of spears and you wouldn't find it provocative in any way, that i was paying your neighbours to build spear blockers in their yards in the path of your spears.

p.s. i also have lots of friends in your area who also have lots of spears , and you dont have many friends in my area with spears. and all my friends continue to make lots of spears , infact we have so many spears we make sure your friends can't make any spears of their own. If they try to make spears i give them cash bribes and stuff so they stop. :pimp

venezuela as been pro-russia and anti-america since ~2005.

i've yet to see an official U.S. statement declaring the recent event as an *act of war*

in fact, here is the official pentagon statement-

Quote:

Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman said such joint exercises between nations are not unusual. "We exercise all around the globe and have joint exercises with countries all over the world. So do many other nations."

but i'm sure that's wrong since all the gfy U.S. military experts in here claim otherwise.

Heh, I was just watching our crazy president Chavez announcing once again on TV that someone is trying to kill him. For the 56th time.
Anyway, from what I have read, the russian planes dont have any nukes in them. I saw a picture of a couple of them in the airport here in maracay.
The venezuelan people are more interested in the fact that Chavez just force on us 26 laws that he proposed back in december in his constitutional reform. That's just a show of how democratic he is, for all those "socialist" gfyers that are bound to show up any second now...
